    Breaking in new tires

    Hi All:

Just a tidbit I discovered a few years ago, if everyone else did not already know.

I have had good luck using Goo Gone to remove the mold release from new tires (that shiny stuff on your new tread that kills your grip). If you just got new tires, and you have some Goo Gone, give them a good cleaning with a rag. It makes the break-in much more pleasant, especially on the outer edges of the tire that don't hit the ground until you are already pushing hard.

    Hope that's helpful,

    Matthew

I like the dirt method too, r80rt. I will keep the goo gone in mind 8k down the road when I get the next. I like the TW in that break-in is pretty minimal, I've never had a close call with new tread on her. The R6 (I had) demanded gentle riding for her new tires! Jeez, the last rear I put on was a dual compound that was a bit harder than the last dual compound. 8 miles on it, less than a block from my house, turning left I lost the rear end and nearly high-sided it when it gripped. I did end up going down but, at least it was the low side.
