Finally Bought a 2002 TW200 for the wife (and I)

Well, after ride pillion for 30 years, the wife decided to learn to ride her own and we went looking at bikes. I test rode one last year and loved but couldn't talk her into it at the time. Now she has decided it's time to learn to ride so we went and looked and I pointed her right to a TW200. She has a 50cc scooter so this would be an upgrade and at our age, we weren't looking to go really fast. So, with her shorter stature, we looked at the TW200 and she felt comfortable on it so the hunt began. We found a 2002 locally and I paid a good price for it. Best part about it, since I like to build bikes (did the customer Harley seen for 25 years and now have a fully built Tiger 800XC) , she said to make it fun and safe for her so I get to build again After doing a couple of short rides around here picking what I liked and didn't, started to collect parts for the build to do what I think would be both fun and functional. Total stock Mule going into short adventure bike for her to ride and for me to play on. If she really likes it, maybe will do a hers/his set of mules and I can get another one

So far I have these items to install:
    New lighting and signals upgrades
    Rear Rack
    XT350 Tank
    New Front Tire
    Cycra Hand Guards
    New grips
New handlebars as the original are not straight
    X ring chain and sprockets
    Kicker Kit and shifter
Upgrading the front and rear suspension

Many other mods planned and small things to do and thanks to this forum that I've been reading for a while, and got some really good info. I will post pics of the build as it goes. Here is how it sits at this time:

Looks more like a 2004/2005. 2002's were white with silver wheels, Maybe a better deal than you thought.

Yep I now see the white front fender it's a 2003. Don't know what you paid for her but you got a better deal than you thought. Looks as the difference between the 2003 and the 2004 is the yellow strip on the tank. Still 03-05 are some of the best color combos yamaha has come up with. While it does not make any difference in parts for your bike it is nice to know what the correct year is if you ever want to sell in the future. Happy riding and welcome to the TW WORLD.

Well thats awesome and now I have to back and check all the paperwork to make sure and title says 2003. Also have more parts rolling in as I keep getting deliveries. Have a new skid plate and other bits. Soon to stsrt the tear down and get it completed.

My 2003 purchased new used to look identical to Ibikers; same stickers, tank paint, black wheels, fender. Now I am curious and will check sticker on frame tube below steering head since 02,03,04 models seem similar. Does not really make a difference, milage, overall condition and use history are more important.
