    Virginia Inspection?

Just received my plates from Vermont for my '89 TW along with temporary registration. I plan on switching it over to Virginia now that I can request a title and register it. Trouble is that it needs a bit of work before it will pass inspection but I'm not sure what all is a necessity in Virginia to get an inspection completed. Anyone know or know where I can find it? I've googled it a couple of times and searched the Virginia DMV site but no go. Right now the brake light stays on and doesn't change w/brake applied (last PO switched to LED but just plugged it in), there is no mirrors, no rear turn signals, and instrument cluster isn't lighting up. I have an order for turn signals, flasher, diode, and mirrors. The horn is present and does work. Will all of that take care of it or is there anything I'm not aware of?

    Thanks!

Thanks, but not having owned a street bike before I don't know what is required and what is optional. I'm use to playing in the dirt!

Brake lights, headlight, and turn signals will be a must no matter where you are.

The rules are different in the UK – but this should still help you out ……….

Look at a standard TW200 – and make sure yours has the same kit. Then, if it’s on the bike, it has to work. Yamaha made sure this bike is OK for the USA market. Simples.

The brake light situation has probably been caused by the PO putting in the wrong kind of LED bulb. Make sure it’s dual purpose tail and brake. They’re cheap as chips, and widely available.

The one in the link above is dual purpose, and the peripheral lights illuminate the number plate as well.

Although the speedo bulb is made of chocolate (e.g. prone to melting), it’s unlikely that that bulb plus the other three have failed. Easy enough to check, just pull them out – they are simple push fit. If the bulbs are OK, then you need to check the wiring connectors (again, it’s fairly simple to do). Making sure the instrument lights are in working order will not only satisfy the examiner, they are there for you as well, and with good reason.

Sounds like you have the other stuff on order.

Like I say – work out what the bike is supposed to have – make sure it all works – then you can’t go wrong ……….

If Virginia is like PA they'll check tire tread depth and brake wear too so make sure those are good.
