    Ever think about waiting to change that break-in-oil, change it know!!!!! this is after a 5 minute break in on a new crf230f. Those are some big chucks.

    The big chunks are safely caught up in the filter screen. Its the little fellows you can't see that are chewing on your bearings. You are just doing the final polishing of the cylinder walls. No problem. But by the same token oil is relatively cheap and you can change it as often as YOU want. Tom

    This is becoming a common issue as more and more manufacturers have resorted to silicone sealants. Engines are assembled with liquid sealent, the parts torqued down and the bikes shipped. The excess hardened sealant eventually breaks off and finds the oil screen, a process which often continues long after initial break-in, and on occasion to such a degree that it clogs the screen sufficiently to cause catastrophic failure.



    China, Thailand and others have increasingly become Japan's "Mexico" with bikes being assembled and/or manufactured offshore for their reduced labor costs. Nightmare stories of entire runs of bikes leaving the assembly line sans oil filters, pickup screens (backward clutch arm springs?) and the like are increasingly common, so it pays to check. Trust not thy dealer, who chargeth for setup, but checketh not.



    As the man from N.M. stated, oil is cheap.

    Cool info guy's! To bad the japanese machines have lost some quality over the years, but I still love there products.

    When I got my bike it had 236 miles without a first oil change. The screen had some debri but not that much. The oil had a lot of metallic look though. Thanks for the reminder.



    ....a little off topic.....what country is the TW plant in?

    Just did the first oil change on my 2010TW at 250 miles, 99% on dirt. The screen was noticeably clogged, with what I did not know until reading the above. Lots of small metallic shavings on the filter itself.



    Oil is cheap and I want to run this bike along time and a lot of miles.
