Well, I picked one up last night. I am by no means new to bikes. I currently ride a 1989 Yamaha Venture Royale 1300cc full touring bike for those long rides. I've always liked the big wheel style of the TW200, I had a Honda Fat Cat 200 when I was a kid and I figured this is the closest I can come to that without restoring a Fat Cat and it's street legal to boot. I had a honda XR650L last year but it was just to big/heavy/lopey for the small trails around me, plus the fact I have had carpal tunnel surgery in both hands. It's a 1988 Black/Red with only 3000 original miles on it. It has been sitting a long time, has slight slight surface rust in the gas tank. It does run and drive, no smoke and engine is tight. Clutch does slip a little bit when you really drop the hammer. I think I did pretty good, can't wait to take it in the mud.

That looks great. I have not seen one with that color combination. Enjoy it.

Howdy and welcome dz1. I know liking a certain color can be subjective, but I've always been partial to the Black and Red color combination. Guess that's why I've repainted mine tan and black. Go figure! But in the end we probably buy the TW because we want a TW and don't care what color it is. Wishing thought, mine is a 2005 and boy-oh-boy I wish I had the kick starter. One day I will.

Another random thought. Your mentioning of the XR650, reminds me of what I thought I wanted, but didn't have the money for at the time. Last week out in my work parking lot I saw a KLR650. Walked over to take a look, (only because it was repainted, wait for it...tan). As I was standing there admiring the paint job, I then realized how tall it was. I'm 6'1" and the seat height was way up there. I don't think I would have liked that. Turns out I'm pretty darn satisfied with the TW and it's seat height.

    Again, Welcome!
Hidden Content A ride in the woods helps me relax and release tension. The fact I'm dragging a body should be entirely irrelevant?

I'm new to the TW as well. I just bought my 89 from some lady in Allentown (live in king of prussia). I'll keep my eyes peeled for that sweet color combo. Mine is just white with blue accents.

Thanks, I like the color combo too. It's seems a pretty rare factory color combination.

Boarder255, I am only about a half hour away from you. White and blue isn't a bad color combo either.

    Admiral,

The xr650l is a really tall bike. I'm 6'4" and could flat foot it easily, but it still tried to keep me up. It was very powerful, but lugged in the tight trails around my house. It would most certainly have to be re-geared if you planned on doing any real tight woods riding. More of a street bike. My buddy has a KLR650 and that bike is way more of a street bike. It's heavy as anything but it is liquid cooled. I'm a fan of the smaller bikes (even though I am not a small person). Guess it's just my riding style and the location I go to.
