Just turned over ten grand of trouble free and nothing but fun miles on my 2008. All I have had to do so far is a chain, front sprocket, headlight bulb, a pair of fork boots, and a couple of clutch free play adjustments. I couldn't be happier with my first bike but now I am wanting for more power on the street so an fz6r might be added to the stable next spring, maybe.

And a front tire, forgot about that one. One question. How many miles should I expect out of the back tire.

Good job, my 2008 will roll over to 10,000 by the end of the week.

I'm about a month away from hitting 15k on my 2008. Absolutely zero problems (knock on wood) so far. I replaced the front tire at about 11k and the rear tire looks like it has quite a bit of life left.

Looks to me like the back tire is good for at least 20K under normal conditions. I did get a nail in it and put slime in which has worked fine, but that might hurt its longevity. This little bike has cost me next to nothing per mile. I see why it has such a hardcore following.

i turned 8,000 miles on my 2009 today. it's been a fun 2 years using it as a commuter. unfortunately, i'm being transferred by my job, so i just put a deposit down on a 2012 DR650. i'm not selling the tw though. i can't see any reason to ever get rid of it. i will just not ride it daily anymore.

So as stated, I was at 9996.7 after arriving home today. It will hit 10K+ on my ride to work in the morning.

I adjusted the original chain to 8+1 yesterday afternoon. A D.I.D. roller chain and 47 tooth rear sprocket should arrive on Monday. Remarkably, both original sprockets show minimal wear and I am comfortable leaving the front sprocket in place. I had to replace the battery about 6 moths ago. Other than that, only regular oil changes, chain lube, and a valve adjustment. The high beam indicator bulb quit at some point as well probably due to the fact I run high beam during the daylight hours.

I expect the front tire will need to be replaced within the next 3K miles. I would guess the rear to last close to another 8-10K unless the wear becomes exponential.

The only thing that has ever annoyed me about this bike is the gas cap lock jingling for a while. A little PTFE fixed that (I assume by collecting enough gunk to tighten things up - I am afraid to clean it )

I've even passed on a killer deal on my "lust bike" - Ducati Monster 696 - due to the fact I enjoy the TW so much. I figured I would still ride the TW most of the time and the Ducati would wasted as it sat most of the time. I have a Virago 535 that just sits as testament to that fact.

I'm looking to change the plastic to all all black at some point, but I expect to have many miles ahead while I work on that goal.

My front sprocket and chain were toast after 6000 miles and my front tire was history after around 8000 miles. Most of my miles are on single track trails with a little pavement and road riding mixed in. The rear sprocket is looking pretty worn, I did turn it around when I replace the chain, but my next change will be both sprockets and an o ring chain. My fork boots did not last as long as I expected but I am working the forks hard on most of the trails I ride. I would love to have a fun street bike to rip around on but I also wonder how much I would really ride it since I have miles of trails to ride and that is what I like doing the most on the tw.
