Thread: M/C Boots and shift lever clearance

    Any suggestions on after market shift levers that allow more room between the peg and the lever? I have been riding with leather work boots and upgraded to M/C boots and my foot doesn't fit like I'd like for up shifting.

    Have you tried adjusting the shift lever?



    There is a screw that runs through it, if you loosen it, the lever will slide off and it has splines so you can change its position.

    Yup, just remove the screw, pull off and rotate the lever one spline clockwise and replace the screw. Should be just right.

    I installed a longer shafted shift lever...THIS ONE. This one is specified for a YZ250 but fits perfectly on our TWs. The distance from the center of my foot peg to the center of the MSR shift lever is now 6.75 inches. The stock shift lever was 5.25 inches, center to center. The MSR lever positions the shift lever to almost the same position as is on my Bonneville, which I like.

    I had the same problem and went to cyclegear to see what they had. They ended up ordering me a yz250 emgo folding lever for $11. Makes a huge difference with my size 12 mx boots.

    I had the YZ250 shift lever and loved the extra length. I ended up welding an extra piece into the stock shift lever to make it about an inch longer same length as the YZ250 shifter. The YZ250 lever was better because it stuck out a little more to the side.

    Thanks for the input. I did move the lever up one notch on the spindle and it think that will do it. I am also planning on buying the YZ250 folding lever to replace this one when I break it crashing through the Eastern Oklahoma woods in a couple weeks.
