Could not find a reasonably prices TW200

    Oops, posted this in the Classified section by mistake so here it is again.



    Well I tried to find a reasonably priced TW 200 in the area (eastern Wisconsin) but had no luck ($2900 for a 2009 with 1650 miles, $3300 for a 2010 with 250 mi used for motorcycle training class, etc) so I started looking at other dual sport bikes and bought a 2008 Yamaha WR250R (fuel injected, liquid cooled, very good suspension etc) in very good condition (a few scratches on the plastic) with 547 miles ridden by an old man like me (paid $3600 so not too much more than the TWs for sale here currently). In 2008 a new WR sold for $2100 more than the TW so with the low miles I think I did OK. I was looking forward to the wide tires on the TW but all I read about the WR says it is a very good bike also. I look forward to spending time on it. Anyone have experience on a WR?

    Little bit skinnier than the TW200, and a bit taller. I'm in between 5'8 and 5'9.5, so the TW is at my height limit, IMO

    I've never rode a WR but I have gotten my ass kicked by one on the highway. =p



    When I was riding my Nighthawk 250 (Makes about...15-18 hp on a good day) I was at a stop sign waiting to turn onto the highway and a blue WR250 (off-road version, not super moto) pulls up behind me. We both take off at about the same time and that sonuvabitch was probably doing 60 by the time I hit 40. I didn't really take off wound out drag-race style, but I wasn't taking off slowly either. Once he passed me I of course instinctually tried to keep up with him but it was useless, I just had nowhere near as much power. I always gotta try though!



    They have incredible power for 250's so I'm sure they're much better suited on the highway...I wouldn't recommend one for solely offroad though unless you're 6'5" or taller...even then a TW might be better.

    I sat on one at my local dealership. I'm 6'2" with 30" inseams and I couldn't put both feet down at once. I could only touch the ground with my toes with one foot only. I hear that the bike has a built in one inch lowering bracket. I'd probably have to use it. Love the TW though but I just keep dreaming of a WR.

    I have a 30" inseam and the WR does not seem too tall. My feet aren't flat on the ground but I'm not on my "tippy toes" either like I was on the KTM 450 MXC I use to have. A slight lean puts 1 foot flat on the ground. Probably size 14 feet help some. I like the fuel injection on the WR and for the price I paid/low mileage/condition I am happy with it. Now I just need to get out and ride it.

    They are great bikes!

    There is a section for them on ADVRider that you will want to read.

    Excellent bikes, just not at all like a TW.

    Totally different design/use goals.

    I would love to have one to join my DR650 and TW200.

    Each bike has a huge advantage in some areas over the others, and falls short in other ways.

    They don't compete, they compliment each other.

    Hmmmm, maybe I can trade my 05 RM250 for one?

    I have a little experience on it.



    The suspension on the WR is worth the extra $$$ ... many times over. And its gotta lot more punch and longer legs than the TW. Love the 'hug the tank' design for the legs (I never touch the tank on my TW with my legs. Ever. For any reason. Or with my hands, but that's getting off the topic ;-)



    You're prob tall, so you don't mind how high the WR seat height is ... I'm 5'6", so its easier for me to just not touch the ground while riding it.



    The WR is agile and fun and RUNS.



    In the real world of trails and mountains, I've been in places where I prefer the TW many, many times over.



    In 7 inches of snow on city streets ... I'd vote for the TW, any day.



    The WR250 is a good pretend RRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCEEEEE bike. (with matching price tag)



    The TW is the pick-up truck of motorcycles. Sorta feels like a four-wheel drive ... motorcycle.



    MY perfect bike would be a TW450 ... six speed ... with the WR suspension. What are ya doing over there Yamaha?????

    I will look up the WR forum, thanks. I could have been happy with either the TW or WR as I will not be riding real technical terrain, most of the miles will be at our farm in central Illinois so a lot of field borders,some roads, some woods.

    I had the real thing race bike (KTM 450 MXC) and it was more than I needed so I started looking at the TW and WR. Having ridden the KTM I don't look at the WR as a pretend race bike, but as a dual sport with some upgraded features (suspension, fuel injection etc). If the price had been a lot more than the TWs I would not have purchased it.
