Yeah most locksmiths won't have that sized of blank, but they can still cut you a key that will work on a close sized blank. I think I have seen the blanks on ebay or such. Check that out.

I had the same issue, just one key when I got the bike. After trying several hardware stores and Walmart, I went to a local Locksmith company that had the exact blank for the Tdub. Cost was $1.75 each. Both work great. I would be careful trying a blank that wasn't the same as Yamaha's. Even exact blanks fit tight in my Tdub and I wouldn't want to get one stuck.

Curtis key blank YM-57 or YM-58 will work just fine. That's the blanks I used when cutting Yamaha keys.

My '94 uses an Ilco (more common ) X117 / YH46. There is a curious aversion to going to a locksmith rather than a big box store, but you will get an accurate key @ the lockshop. Most hardware stores etc. use inexpensive, poorly adjusted machines and produce a poor product. You get what you pay for.

If you have an original key, make a bunch of duplicates and put the original key away. That applies to most every key you have. Duplicates, even at high dollar locksmith prices is less expensive than having keys made when you have lost all of them.

Not all TW's use the same blank. I have a 93 parts bike that the key is completely distinct from my 2002 bike. That said some generic blanks will work but even when you get one from the key shop its not guaranteed to work, but they may give you your money back if it doesn't. Writing down and using the key number that is correct for your bike is the best strategy, but may cost a few bucks more. there is a long thread on this in the old forum archives. Cheers. Tom
