Wondering about a trade - is it worth my time

I am new to the TW200FORUM even though I owned a nice 2006 TW200 a few years ago. I had picked it up for a really low price from a guy who used it to get to his hunting cabin so it had super low miles and was just really dirty. I guy in my neighborhood offered me an insane amount of cash ($1,100 over what I aid for the bike) for my TW so I took it and sold the bike to him.

I know that guys and girls on bike specific forums know a ton of stuff about the bikes so I thought I would ask.

Thanks for any and all help/suggestions.

    Teeth to the wind,
    Jeff - Sno Dawg

Take the shotgun approach and advertise both “For Sale” & “Trade” options as well as “Looking to Buy TW” adds. Filter through results for what seems most attractive to you.
Something tells me finding someone who wants to trade a low mileage TW worth $3750 for a 96,000 mile BMW might take a while.

Private trade may be difficult...although this is an active forum and maybe someone with a spare TW may want your BMW.

Trade in for new will likely result in less trade value than normally anticipated, but if you want a new TW, then visit your local dealer and simply ask.

If that dealer is going to give you $3750 for a bike (any bike) with 96,000 miles take the money and run.
MAX BMW just gave me an appraisal of $12,000 to $16,000 for my unrestored 1969 r60/2. Guess which end of the spectrum they would be offering me?

I don't know of any situation where you will be money ahead to trade in to a dealership vs just selling the item and taking the cash w/ you.

    worth asking????

Thanks for the honest recommendations and thoughts. I was hoping to get an even up trade or to just put money on top of the BMW GSA to get a newer one.

I was thinking that someone might be thinking of getting in to a bigger adventure bike than the TW or just have an extra one in the garage and want some variety. I bet I would be lucky if a dealer offered me $3000 for this one despite its condition.

That is one of the bikes I am looking for an R60/2. I am not in the position right now to pick up a $10,000 + bike because I just picked up a second HP2 and got it on the road.

    Your /2 sounds nice.

Thanks. It was just an appraisal for Insurance, not sale at this point. I just switched to Haggarty for this bike only whose specialty is vintage and antique cars and motorcycles.
They agreed to $15K total loss which surprised even me. The only motorcycle I've ever owned worth more than I paid for it.

To the original poster, you'll get the most selling private, finding the the right person who is looking for your exact bike. Most folks looking at BMW don't care about the milage if the price is right and it's well taken care of. You'll get screwed by a dealer... they don't want high milage on the showroom floor.
