    Dual Sport Helmets

I am almost ready to pull the trigger on another helmet and I was wondering if anybody on the forum has any experience with this one.......

    Nice helmet.
    No experience with it.

I use a Bilt Explorer and a Shuberth E1 for off road.

Nice theoretically safer helmet for the intermediately oval headed rider.
I have found that a fully closed visor tends to fog up when dual sport riding has transitions from speedier to slower trails requiring exertion. Cracking open the visor a bit on dual sport helmets can help.
However the Belt Explorer I have has a second inner drop down sunglass lens that by itself provides eye protection and ventilation off-road. This is a handy feature if you don't already wear glasses.
I tried on the original M-9 (pre-MIPS technology) but ended up with the Bilt.

I have my eye on the Klim Krios. It has a funky spoiler in the back, but reviews are positive and I really like the light weight of the helmet. Unfortunately I haven’t found one to try on for fit. But Cycle Gear said they can order it and will give me a full refund if I don’t like it.

    Thanks for the thread.

I’m going to take a close look at the Bilt Explorer next time I’m by Cycle Gear - handy having them nearby in Chattanooga and Knoxville.

Never had the Bell, but based on what I have read, I think my next helmet will have MIPS. So it is Probably a good safety upgrade for you regardless. I do prefer my goggles over my visor (I ended up with two Gmax 11ds, one I leave the visor on, the other I converted to goggles only) for riding off road or around town. How the helmet works with goggles may be something to consider.

The remaining inventory of Bell M-9 non-MIPS sell for about 1/2 the price of the newer MIPS model.

Thanks for your input guys, much appreciated. Being an old fart with glasses and hearing aids can be a challenge with some helmets..... I also didn't want toooooo funky of a helmet given my conservative nature and age...........

I really like the modulars, Gmax makes a nice one but I want to keep the weight to 3.5 pounds or lighter...... I have a carbon fiber one for the Triumph and I love how light it is...... The reviews on the Bell suggested that wearing glasses should not be a problem and there is adequate ear space that should allow for hearing aids.....mine are small Phonak's that fit behind my ears...... I also like the MIPS technology.

I already own four helmets and the riding season for me is still two months away so time is not of the essence........soooooooo, I will research a wee bit further before pulling the trigger.....

It is interesting as you research, the Bell helmets are rarely Snell rated, but testing shows they are regularly one of the best performing helmets from a safety perspective. Lots of cool info if you search. This is kind of cool https://www.crash.org.au/ratings.php
