Mastodon tire on rear other questions???

I am putting a mastodon 26x9x14 tire on stock rim on my ride I have read all the how too's so no questions about that subject. I am wondering because it is a taller tire do I need to do something to the front forks to maintain the trail? like put them down in the triple tree as far as they go? I would think it would have some impact on handling.

    Thanks.

It will have an effect of raising your final drive ratio too. You may want to go a tooth or two larger on the rear sprocket.

    Hey Dman,

In theory, you are correct. But in practice, you'll never notice the difference.

If you are successful in getting that Mastodon mounted (and I certainly hope that you will be!), the handling of your TW will be more like a rototiller than a precisely dialed-in sport bike .

    Don't sweat it.

Yes, I would recommend putting the forks as far down in triple trees as possible. It will not noticeably lessen the mild increase in rake that the Mastodon introduces, but will help maintain the maximum front suspension travel available. You don't want the forks bottoming out by having fender cross brace slam into bottom of lower triple tree. .

I got the sprocket covered I have a 55 with the 14 front so the ratio should be good. I am putting the stiffer springs and the emulators on the front also. it would seem that heat is the key to getting the tractor tread on the stock rim. My plan is to put the semi mounted tire in a "box" like a large shipping crate with a small propane salamander type heater blowing in to get the tire up to a good hot temp then try to seat the bead most of the posts indicated if the tire was warm it seats pretty easy. I will post some pics and a report of how that goes.

I can't wait to see this. Should be pretty neat to see.
