What do you think of this for a T-dub trailer?

    I have been thinking about going with the Harbor Freight trailer that QWERTY and others have discussed.



    However, I have also been watching Craigslist for other options. I came across this today. It seems like it would work well for a T-dub trailer if I mounted a wheel chock up front. I also like the fact that it has larger tires than the Harbor Freight trailer.

    Just wondered if I was missing anything. What do you think?

    Should work fine for a TW. Looks like you'll need to add some lights and get some type of a ramp. Do trailers need to be plated in your area?

    Hi TW-Brian - thanks for the ideas.



    In Oregon, trailers with a loaded, combined weight of less that 1,800 pounds are exempt from title and registration requirements



    I see that Harbor Freight has a trailer light set (#93861) for $22.



    I figured I could use a 2x8 for a ramp and position it as a side or front rail when not in use.



    I notice the trailer is also missing safety chains. No lights and no safety chaings - I wonder what this was used for?







    I have 3 worries about this:



    - Unsprung weight - big heavy wheels on a light trailer



    - It looks like there are no leaf springs.



    - Not sure how much metal is under all that wood.







    The Old White Truck has hauled a lot of stuff in its bed over the years but I have never messed with trailers before.

    Looks like both those craigslist postings have been deleted by the author.



    I don't really like the HF equipment, but that trailer is in my driveway right now. If I could have found one on CL that would have fit my need though, I would have bought one. I'm not a big fan of the small wheels either. On the other hand, the HF trailer does work and it is nice to have a trailer light enough I can just pick up the tongue and push it back into its spot.

    Looks like they are both gone already. That was fast. I guess you snooze, you lose.



    I am going to look for a small flatbed that I can install wheel chocks in. That way I can have some dual purpose capability. With all the options on Craigslist I think I will just keep watching there for a used one rather than going the HF route. That way I can look for some larger wheels.



    My question is: do most people have some form of suspension on their bike trailers (i.e. leaf springs or a torsion setup)? Like I said before, I don't know anything about trailers and in my former biking life I never had a need for a trailer because I lived right next to miles and miles of logging roads and trails.

    This HF trailer is supposed to be able to haul 1000 lbs and it is leaf sprung. My last trailer was rated to 10,000 lbs and it was leaf sprung. Actually the only trailer I can think of that is torsion sprung in my ATV Wagon (ATV trailer -- tows behind an ATV). This suspension was chosen for clearance reasons I believe. I once saw one of these for sale with a broken torsion bar, btw. I've seen some home made trailers made without suspension. I have no experience with those however.
