Why are used 2001 and up TW cylinders so darn expensive.

There is a bunch on ebay but 2001 up starts at $150 Pre 2001 TW cylinder is only $45. I get the automatic chain tensioners but jeepers... I pick up auto tensioner 225 cylinders for <$15 at times. I am building the fixtures now for the cylinder boring and wanting to do a setup verification on a cheapo cylinder before I take my engine apart. Not sure I want to pay $45 for practice. I guess i will just use one of the 225 cylinders and assume the small bore will work similarly. I am waiting on some 1 1/2" aluminum plate to make a real solid holding fixture and torque plate but just trying to get the machine in tram as close a possible. this cylinder is just clamped on the table to work on the machine alignment for now so real close at a 1/2 thousandths top to bottom in an old used cylinder.

I dont know whats up with tw parts that way. 4-5 years ago I needed a head and they were all over 150 bucks and I found a ttr head for less than 50 bucks. I think the ttr cylinder I just got was 30 bucks and it came with the auto tensioner still in it.

    I feel your pain guys!

I guess we are now paying the price for creating the cult following that the TW now seems to have. I have torn a number of TW's completely down and have yet to find the parts that some guys feel are made of gold!

I miss the good old days, like the one Saturday back in 2012 when I purchased this 2003 for $950.00,

and, this 1987 for $400.00 (and the seller even delivered this bike to my garage!).

Hahaha, that dingus would be the previous owner!

I never noticed that while I owned the bike. I converted the front end to a fat tire setup, and then I sold the bike. Sometime after that I was looking for a picture of this bike and noticed that it was on backwards.

    Good catch Axel!
