    Riding in the heat

Am planning a 100 mile ride this Friday, but the temps are supposed to get into the mid 90's. Besides being awfully warm to ride, will my TDub be ok? Not used to riding in the heat on an air cooled bike. I don't have an external oil cooler.

    Thanks

I found it difficult to ride in those temps at anything but a somewhat fast speed (more air cooling the engine), that is until I got an oil cooler. Before the cooler, rolling slow in the deep sand at the pines made the motor sound like a rattlebox due to excess pinging.

I would add, no problem at highway speeds 45 and up. maybe even 35, can't remember for sure, sorry. but I don't see it as an issue unless your lugging it going real slow. Others will chime in soon.

Thank you. I should have mentioned this will be all street riding, or as fast as Vera can go!!

I don't think you will have an issue then. I do that every August when it's hot..

Use High Octane, ethanol free gas. My bike will also do the knocking and pinging thing when hot, good gas greatly reduces it.

You can try running at the lower end of a higher gear when possible to reduce RPMs and lower your engine heat.

Forecast tomorrow is only 108F (was 110 F), so I will take a ride via Lake Mead to Overton and back = 160 miles.
A couple water bottles in a low profile cooler on my back seat will be helpful.

Might travel a bit faster on the CB1100, but only about 54 MPG!
