This morning across Canada we celebrated Remembrance Day and today marked 100 years since the ending of WWI. To all of our military both past and present in Canada, the United States, Europe and Australia we say Never Forget for all the sacrifices made by men, women and families over the last 100 years and still going on today!

Miaugi...didn't mean to leave out Canada Vets, or those of any other of our friends & allies!
My Dad was a WWII Vet and he had Australian & Indian soldiers on the top-shelf!

Indeed, Armistice Day is what we celebrated until we realized "the war to end all wars" wasn't. It also started a trend abroad that we adopted in the following years, The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Thank you to all that have served.

I attended the Remembrance Day ceremony today at the cenotaph in Nanaimo as I usually do. For the last several years a special guest has been in attendance: a gentleman named Victor who was born November 11, 1918. He is a veteran himself, having served as a submariner during the Spanish Civil War and all of WWII. Today he celebrated his 100th birthday on the 100th anniversary of the armistice. The entire crowd sang Happy Birthday to him - a wonderful moment during a somber event.

Can you tell us any more about Victor?

I would love to meet that old Sailor!

I was close friends with another vet named Victor.
Victor Toogood, RAF. He flew Spitfires in the RAF and provided air support for Allied troops on D-Day.
He was a proper English gentleman who had emigrated to the States.
He was an avid motorcyclist and rode his old Norton 500cc single from Dallas to Canada a couple of times.

I'm proud to say that the last motorcycle Vic ever rode was my restored 1943 BSA M-20 British warbike.
    I still miss them both...

OOH RAH! I spent Saturday celebrating the USMC 243rd Birthday riding all day with a couple hard chargers I was in the Corps with. I went to Boot Camp with one and referred the other, we all still live here but rarely get to see one another, so it was a blast to say the least.
Yesterday, the wife and I, she is an Afghan War Vet, went down to one of the casinos and had free breakfast. The best part was seeing the Vets from every era getting together and enjoying one another's company. Whenever I get a chance to speak with a WWII or Korean War Vet it is a real privilege. Not too many left and I cherish each and every one I meet. The same for every Vet I meet. Attention and a CRISP salute to every one of you. To everyone who has served, or still serving, THANK YOU.

Don't forget Wreaths Across America. If you get a chance to attend one it is very moving.

I haven't found much information on Victor Osbourne but here are two local Remembrance Day articles: yesterday's ceremony with a picture of him, and one from last year with a brief bio.
