    Electrical diagram for 1987 going to 1989 motor

    My motor went out on my 1987 tw 200 and I bought a motor from a 1989 to replace it but the wiring is a little different. I cant seem to find good diagrams to explain how to get this all back together. Any help would be appreciated.
    After looking at this forum and went and looked things up and it turns out my bike is an 89 not 87. The motor is supposed to be an 89 but the wiring doesnt match up.

    First things first. You need to determine what year your bike is and what wiring harness it does have. 1987 and 1989 are completely different harnesses. 1988 - 2000 all have the same wire harness but the 1987 is very different. Under the seat and on a white label on the harness you should find a part number. Go to Partzilla.com and pull up the schematics for 1987 and 1988 TWs and under electrical you can see the harness part numbers. An 89 bike and 89 motor should be a plug and play swap. Until you know the correct year of your bike and the harness it has and the year of the new motor there will be no help.

    Hello,
    The main difference is the charging circuit.
    1987, it is a magnetic flywheel
    1988, he is an alternator

    If it is an alternator assembly you can install that of a TW125.

    Also (I believe), you can take the side cover and flywheel from your old engine, and install them on your new engine.

    That way, you'll keep the same charging system, and everything should plug back together the way it was before.
    Now I must hurry on... for there they go, and I am their leader!

    The harness is the key. If it is an 87 with an 87 harness and you have an 88 or 89 engine then you will be missing some internal wires in the harness and others will be going to different places in the connectors if they even will plug up. 1987 has a one year only electrical system and harness and 1988-2000 have completely different harnesses.
