I hated spending real money on such a primitive little bike but the truth is that where I live its winter half the year and this little creature will be a lot more useful than most other things on two wheels.
Rode it home about 30 miles back roads. The bike had less than 100 miles on it so I stayed around 40 or so and didn't beat on it.
Once I clean the dust of I need to adjust the chain and the rear brake. Way to much pedal. I will change the oil this week too, It was winterized and the battery is up. I will run the gas down and fill it up with non ethanol gas and that will be its regular feeding.
Actually I just got her clean! I washed it up. It's a 2011 with 98 miles. Well now about 125 miles. I saved some $ over new which still made it expensive but I plan on getting my money out of it. Just a stock looking bike and the most I could find was pencil tip sized rock chip. That will change. I joined this forum last year and almost pulled the trigger on one but bought a KLX250s instead. That was a nice bike. I have since sold it and now have a nice EX500, VSTROM 650ABS and now billy (goat).
I have been just dying not riding much the last couple of months and billy is going to change that. I think the strap on type tire chains will be in the works. I am not sure what we have left of winter as it is starting to clear a bit.
I see so many cool mods I don't know where to start. Oh wait a proper chain maybe.
Although it wasn't my first mod or add-on, I would push a better front tire to the top of the mod list in a heartbeat. Nothing else I've done has made as big a difference. The stocker is fine on pavement, but it's easily the weakest link when you hit the dirt.
Thank you. I read the 244 is a good value. I just tried my big magnetic tank bag and its a great fit. I use it on the other bikes and it makes life easy not having to transfer stuff all of the time. I like it because it big enough to fit my gym clothes including shoes.
P.S. I don't see a straightforward why to upload a pic or I would.
That is very true. My little EX500 had 4500 miles and its an 06. I bought it it about May and doubled that. Similar with my VSTROM.
This one had a different story. The owner was a Motorcycle Cop for some years. He left the force but after some time wanted to ride again. He bought a KLR and got this for his wife who I met. She was just a tiny thing. Well a week after a truck backed into him breaking some bones but he came through fine. However, his wife said bikes no more and so this bike got one week of use. They bought it in July of last year from the dealer and it collected dust since. He is a really nice guy and I am happy to have the bike.
welcome...there is a lot of great information on here and there are a lot of helpful people on here as well
if you need to search for anything on this site go to google and type in the site followed by what you're searching for, for example: site:http://tw200forum.com/ riser
no problem...bike looks great!!!...so clean!!!...judging by the tires in the background it looks like you have a few toys...depending on what kind of condition your filter is in you may be able to clean it and reuse it...not a bad idea to have extras on hand though...you planning on running a full synthetic oil?...lots of threads on here about oils...i like mobil 1 racing 4t...have fun and enjoy man!
I am going to just ride it for a while and see what stands out as far as mods. I will put in a better bulb which I always do. I buy a phillips bulb but I have to order them from the UK since they are not sold here. Brighter and good quality but same wattage.
Likely a rack of some sort too. Perhaps a cyclerack.

You will want to wait to switch to synthetics after 1000 miles if you are breaking it in the way the manual suggests. Synthetics don't allow the rings to seat as they should. Welcome to the club!
Thanks so much. Thats what I had read in the past. I will do that.
BTW I had and really liked my KLX250s. Good bikes. I would say "more" bike than the little TW but it depends too. Simplicity is can be very sweet indeed.
I run 20w50 now...it cleared up my persistant base gasket leak on my 2006. My riding temp ranges are from 20 degrees F to 95 degrees F, and I haven't had any trouble starting when it's really cold, even with the thicker oil.
Changed the oil this morning. Even at 125 miles there was a fair amount of metal at the filter. I guess tolerance is not really something they worry about? Anyway I will keep do this several more times during break in. It looks like a magnetic drain plug is a good idea on this.
Don't worry, they are supposed to do this during break-in. Mine at 30 miles:
Mine at 600 miles:
At 3000:
Notice how little metal there is.
Ignore the black goo, I finally figured out it was carbonized oil from operation at low speeds and high torque at high temperatures. (1st gear hill climbing in the 90's) That's the reason I like to inspect the filter more often.
Some here have epoxied a magnetic plug into the drain plug. Try a search for magnetic plug. I didn't bother, preferring to just clean the filter more often, and more thoroughly.....it's surprising how little bits can hide in the nooks of the cover or the housing. I use a magnetic pickup and a Q-tip for non-ferrous stuff.
I rode the bike about 20 miles today. Just easy road riding to the gym and such. I am taking it easy to break it in so I never got past about 35 indicated. I did notice that first gear is a crawler and for my purposes I think I am going to change the gearing a little. I know that I was not pushing the bike at 35 but it sounded like it was doing 45

thats what i said.
yeah thats pretty nasty filter, no i wanna go check mine.
I need to restock my wallet but those are all on my list. I like the looks of the T63 front tire.
Like I said I will see what stands out but for sure a 15t front sprocket is number one. I would like hand guards and a cyclerack as well. Both of them will give crash protection and the hand guards will keep the cold weather off my hands and the rack will do rack stuff.
Curious, have you rejetted the TW yet?......becareful of lugging the TW engine.....the higher rpm's are good for better oil flow.If you haven't already, check out the speed/rpm calculator on this site. You'll find the TW is more than able to do much higher speeds without any damage to the engine due to rpm concern(s)!. Welcome!.
The bike is stock for now. I don't lug the bike but during break in I have kept the overall speed down. I normally short shift in the meat of the torque curve. Good to know...
