I have gone down hard doing 30+ MPH on trails and also going under 3 MPH up steep inclines or through some places I did not belong. Up here in the NY Catskills we have lots of highly overgrown old wood roads and stage coach trails that present all sorts of hidden obstacles we just can't see. Learning how to fall and land gracefully is a lesson well learned. We did a TW get together ride here some years back and hit one spot that was nothing but slick mud and the first few bikes went in up past the foot pegs in some nasty and real sticky stuff. If alone you would have been walking a long way to get help. I ride alone a lot these days and this stuff should be a reminder to all of us to let someone know where we are going.

I still recall my first TW I was showing it off to a group of friends out at my wilderness shop in Winlock WA I have large concrete slabs 40 x 50' on two sides of my shop and I took off on the slab got to almost 30 mph as I rode off onto my gravel parking lot and when I went to do a 180 degree turn to head back the bike went straight it didn't turn at all I luckily saved it but it scared the crappola out of me learning about the death wing the hard way

I've probably bought 2 dozen TW's with around 5 miles on them that were purchased for the wife and on her first ride she discovered the death wing trial by fire and never rode the TW again !

I wonder if that is why so many have like 30 miles on them!

Mine has 0 miles on it. Anybody want a brand new OEM front tire for shipping?
The last two TW's didn't even leave the showroom with the Death Wing.

One would honestly think that both Yamaha Corporate as well as their entire dealer network would be well aware of the reputation of the Bridgestone front tire "Death Wing" label and have changed it by now after over 30 years. I will never understand why they continue to use this same tire because it is NOT an inexpensive tire by any stretch. I would be willing to bet that Bridgestone has some sort of contractual deal such as, If you want us to continue producing the rear TW tire then you must continue to use the front Death Wing. When I first got involved with the TW motorcycles my 1991 had the stock front tire on it that was over 15 years old so I went to the Yamaha dealer and wanted to buy a fresh one. The dealer told me he refuses to stock that tire and would not order one in for me but he did have that tire on the rack which were "Take Offs" from other TWs when buyers wanted a more aggressive tread.
