I haven't visited this forum in a long, long, time.

Anyone have any idea of what a 2006 TW200 stock engine with just a few hundred miles on it might be worth? I have a local buyer but I want to be sure I'm getting the right price. He has offered $1000. I know that Yamaha does not sell engines and since this one is almost new it should be worth at least that, but maybe more (like $1200).

I'm changing one of my TWT200's (one of my TW200 conversion trikes) to electric power, so the engine is coming out.

BTW - I'm not a newby, I joined back in 2006, but I guess the forum has changed.

I sold an '89 motor with about 24k miles sans stator coil (which I still have in a ziploc, just remembered) for like $350 or $400. I'd think a grand for any of these motors is pretty good, even in great condition. Maybe $1200 tops, but I know Yamaha would ask for twice that, which doesn't mean much. It's not an item that would get bought much anyway, if they even do offer it. They'd ask a lot because they expect low demand, there'd be low demand because they ask a lot. Cache 22 kinda thing.

Fact is, you can get a bike that old with that many miles for 2k or so in the Southeast if you keep an eye open, so selling just the motor and getting half a sale ain't bad. If you parted out a whole bike in similar condition you'd realistically make an easy $2500+ total. I know I've made all my money back on the '89 and still have parts around, not to mention I always tried to go a little cheaper than stuff on eBay so folks were actually getting a deal and coming back to the forum for help with things.

As a disclaimer, I know nothing about ideal business practices. I just started winging it, and I've had a few flops due to that, but I feel I learned a lot and righted any mistakes I made. So in my unprofessional opinion, $1000 is good.

By the way, saw your trike stuff on the old forum. Good to see you around, and update us on that electric build as you go!

Yes I still have it but with so many different things to ride it sits a lot. I guess that's a good problem to have.

I'm no expert, either, but getting $1000. for a used TW engine seems actually to be a bit high. I have a couple of friends who buy and sell used bikes and engines all of the time. They often buy and sell 4 cylinder sport bike engines with low miles for less than that.

I'm surprised you have a $1000. offer. Better grab it. Just IMHO.

I picked up a 1996 engine primarily for the kickstart that I installed on my 03.

It had 5000 miles on it and I paid $200.00 for it.Looks like I got a better deal than I thought.
