    TW200 carb in a 2005 TTR230

    I'm looking for a carb for a TTR230. Can a TW200 carb be used ??? TTR230 carb stock is 26mm... I know TW200 is 28mm.....Thanks in advance

Hi oldschool6, and welcome to the forum!

Here is what I can tell you. I have transplanted both TTR225 and XT225 engines into TW200's and have successfully utilized the TW200 carbs in both instances using the TW intake manifold and airbox boots.

I know that the TTR225 carb has larger input and output port diameters than the TW and is physically much larger than the TW's carb, so I am sure that a TW carb would fit into the area available on the TTR. I also know that a TW intake manifold will bolt right up to a TTR225 and an XT225 cylinder head. Where I believe you will have problems is mating the TTR airbox to the TW carb, both in terms of diameters and the distance/orientation between the TTR airbox and the TW carb.

I hope this helps, and good luck!

    Brian

    p.s. The below pictures illustrate a TTR225 carb/airbox boot/intake manifold (on the left) and a 2001+ TW200 carb/airbox boot/intake manifold (on the right).

Maybe I misunderstood you or vice versa.

I need a carb that will work on a 2005 TTR230....Do you know if EITHER a TW200 carb or a TTR225 carb will work ?????? Maybe I'm having a senior moment

It is my understanding that in 2005, Yamaha re-branded the TTR225 as the TTR230. There were no changes to the engine, it remained essentially the same basic 223cc air cooled, single overhead cam, 2 valve, 4 stroke engine that was used in the earlier TTR225's and XT225's. All of my comments related to the TW200 carb and TTR225/XT225 engines should apply to your TTR230, and yes, a TTR225 carb should work fine in your TTR230.

As stated by TW-Brian the TTR225 & TTR230 share the same 223cc motor.
I noticed no discernible difference between the heads when I swapped a 223cc TTR engine for the TW200's engine.
I also am using the stock '03 TW carb and manifolds without modification on that 223cc TTR225 engine.
As such is seems logical that if an intake mod can be made to work on a TW 200 engine it can be made to work on a TTR 225 or TTR230 engine.
Mating TTR airbox to TW or Chinese carb might require creativity.
