I carry a 2L plastic fuel can on “long runs” in the tail bag (along with spare levers) – not a lot, but if you ever need it, it may well make the difference ….

On the way home on Saturday I had done 80 miles (approx. 35 on the highway and 45 on the trails) when I hit reserve. This is on my old XR which usually goes to reserve at around 90 miles.
But high-rev's all day in 2nd & 3rd gear takes it's toll. I did NOT have extra fuel with me but someone riding with us did so I was able to push it to 126 miles. Ran out of gas just as I was pulling into the gas station and glided to the pumps. Now THAT is a good day of riding.

I have the Clark 2.8 gall tank. So 110mi is not a problem. I do carry a 1 gall rotopac under my bag in rear if needed like on some of the long rides in Mina NV with friends. Never know how long those can be because we often get lost lol.

Fixed a ton of worn out and abused parts and took it on a proper trail ride into the talkeetnas.

Got the valves done, changed the oil, put the new Lithiums in, sorted out the air filters – both bikes are now “good to go”, and walked through the MOT (road fitness test)

Ordered a JNS dark unit for the 200, but that’s another story …..

Put an EZ-just air-screw in. skinny part is longer than the TW's one, but a longer spring solves that. Check it:

You're missing a spring clip on the fuel line to the carb ....

Went for an almost summer solstice ride tonight since I have a Basque dinner commitment tomorrow. Crashed mildly right at top of a remote single track summit around sunset & bike just wouldn't re-start. Took well after dark to diagnose and bypass a faulty sidestand and/or neutral switch while managing to cut the fuel line. Awesome lengthy after dark ride home even though I was dripping gas.
    Saw largest meteorite fall ever.
Made it back after 11pm & I am really in the doghouse with a justifiably worried Mrs.Fred.
    No sympathy for me tonight
Maybe tomorrow she'll want to hear about the meteorite and why I reek of gasoline.
