    Question Mystery TW200 - 184cc engine???

I have a TW200 that was imported from the USA to the UK where I live. It is not the one that shows as my Avatar, it is another one. It appears to have been manufactured 1n 1989. The frame is red and the tank is black. I took it today for an MOT test (UK roadworthiness test) which it needed to pass before it can be registered for road use in the UK. It passed the test OK but before the test started, the inspector asked me what capacity the engine is. I replied "196cc" but when he looked at the base of the cylinder, it is clearly marked as 184cm3 (184 centimetres cubed) !!! I have never heard of a 184cc TW200 and Google isn't showing anything. Does anyone have any ideas why it is a 184 instead of a 196? In every other respect it looks like a normal TW200. Pictures here TW200 184cc - a set on Flickr

Aha! A bit more googling comes up with the SR185, which has a similar type of engine. - I reckon somebody must have replaced a borked TW200 top end with SR185 parts at some point in its history. I have a spare TW200 engine so I might swap it, if I can be bothered.

What I find particularly interesting is according to the following link, it has a 34mm Mikuni carb.

    Yamaha SR 185

I'd like to see the side by side differences in that head vs. the TW head (port & valve size). If there is a difference and it would bolt up to the TW, would it increase hp or would the decrease of intake velocity produce undesirable results. I haven't looked into it but I'd assume a 34mm carb or 33mm for that matter would be easier to find in a pumper setup. I'd love to hear some of the TW experts opinion on this.
