Not trying to be rude, but you'd be doing us all a favor by throwing it away. A new non o-ring can be had for under $20, and the stock chain is terrible.

Yes keeping it lubed & adjusted is very important however, the chain & the sprockets wear together. So changing one without the other will decrease the life of both.;100660]Why is the stock chain so terrible, will ot ruin the sprokets?

The stock chain is "ok". It does wear more easily and will require many more adjustments than a good o-ring chain. I kept my old one for a spare, then gave it to a friend after I realized i didn't need it. I will continue to buy o-ring sealed chains in the future. All that being said, if someone doesn't mind cleaning, lubing and adjusting more often it will work fine.

The longest I remember hearing was around 4k miles which is pretty ridiculous for a chain on a bike with such low horsepower.

Have 5,768 miles on my stock chain with no real end in sight. Adjuster is on #7 now so there is still some stretch room left. Rear sprocket is looking good.

Bought my 2009 with 560 miles on it about 2 years ago. I religiously lube it every 200-300 miles and check the slack. Clean it every other time before lubing it.

Do mostly on road and do not ride the TW hard at all so I suppose that factors into the chain longevity as well.

Also should I take it off the bike to clean it. Im guessing theirs a master link?
