    Mystery Graphite

I work at a small boat yard and we are in the process if tearing down an old building. I found 17 pieces of what we think is graphite. They are 27lbs each, 3/4" thick, 15" wide and 37" long. It has the words ACHESON and LHT 28N on them.

No employees past or present can figure out what they may have been used for at the marina. They have been under the building since at least the 60's if not longer.

I've used blocks of graphite as a heat shield when welding. My block is smaller than that though.

When you google ACHESON solid lubricants you get a few hits. Smack it and see if it's old dynamite.

I would love to see a picture! send it to my email if you can't upload it here. I have seen a material that I always thought was slate but could have been a graphite used as base plates when mounting large generators on boats. The theory was that it deadened the vibration and was non conductive so the Gen. did not interfere with other electronics.
