Post Wanting to Buy: well maintained car with service records! $0 - $6,000

    EDIT: FOUND!

I am looking for a used car within about 100 miles of 92223/inland empire/10/215 freeways. I have cash and can buy immediately if I find what I want. I've searched HUNDREDS of Craigslist ads and found three or four promising leads, but obviously haven't found what I need yet. Sifting through those ads constantly, wasting hours of my time riding to look at pieces of SH**, and dealing with liars and idiots is starting to really get on my nerves! So I decided to post in various online forums in the hope that someone out there has what I'm looking for. I realize I'm asking a lot, but I can't afford a piece of garbage like 99% of used vehicles available. Don't have time to screw around with junk! The following is a bullet list of my requirements:

***In the price range of $0 to $6,000 (obviously I will only pay what it is worth...)

***I am only interested in the following vehicles:
    Toyota Tercel 1995+
    Toyota Corolla
Toyota Tacoma (must be extended cab - more than just two seats) 2.7L or 3.4L engines
    Toyota Camry 2003+ or 1995-
    Toyota 4runner 2.7L or 3.4L engines
    Toyota Rav4 2000- automatic trans

    Honda Accord
    Honda Odyssey

    Suzuki Grand Vitara 2003+
    Suzuki Aerio
    Suzuki Samurai

    Mitsubishi Montero
    Mitsubishi Montero Sport

Jeep Grand Cherokee 6 cylinder 1996+
    Jeep Cherokee 6 cylinder 1999-
    Jeep Wrangler 6 cylinder
    Jeep Comanche 6 cylinder

Yes, I'm a pretty big fan of the AMC inline six engines lol...

    ***Must have under 150,000 miles

***Must be in immaculate mechanical condition/absolutely no mechanical problems of any kind whatsoever (no fluid leaks at all, no overheating, no speed wobbles, straight and true alignment, full power, no trans/clutch slippage, etc.)

***Must have service records for ALL maintenance and repairs performed since BRAND NEW/day one (this can be carfax, receipts from a shop/dealer, or just a detailed service log written by an owner/mechanic such as myself), and ALL maintenance must have been done at the recommended intervals (or at least fairly close to them). If you missed an oil change here or there, I can live with that; as long as there are no significant gaps in the maintenance, I'm good.

***Clean title in the owner's name

    ***Current registration

If you have a vehicle such as this, or know someone who does, please let me know. My preferred contact method is via email at [email protected] , but feel free to also post here or send me a PM. Thanks!

I think you need to be prepared to pay more for, what you insist on, $6000 is low balling for any of the immaculate conditioned vehicles you spec. Good luck. Kelly blue book will give you reasonable market prices.

Perhaps. But at least in theory, there is no reason this shouldn't be possible. I realize that I have ultra high expectations, but I don't actually think more money will help a whole lot. If you look at my list, I'm not trying to score a brand new car with 10k miles on it; it can be as old as late 80's and as high as 150k miles if it meets all my other requirements. More money will buy newer cars with fewer miles, but won't really go any further to getting me a properly maintained vehicle with records to prove it. Reality is that 99% of people don't bother to keep any record of their vehicle's care and repair (in fact most people don't bother to DO most of the maintenance at all). That's why there is so much junk out there, and so many junk yards full of cars that could have gone another hundred thousand miles if they were taken care of. As I said in my original post, I have come close to finding what I want two or three times, so I'm sure there will be SOMETHING that meets all of my requirements. I am a very patient man and I will wait months for this if I have to. I will either keep looking until I find something like this, buy a CHEAP POS and MAKE it immaculate, or wait until I can afford brand new. I cannot, and will not spend thousands on junk! Since you mention KBB...ACCORDING to KBB, ALL of the vehicles I have listed can be found in my price range, while meeting all of my requirements. I guess I have to wait and see, lol. I looked at a 96 Grand Cherokee 4x4 with 100k and excellent maintenance records today, but I noticed right away that the coolant was really low, which could indicate serious problems. Granted, it could have been at the perfect level and still had serious problems... I do understand that if/when I find what I'm looking for, and everything seems perfect, it may still have serious problems. That's just a risk I have virtually no choice but to take, short of disassembling the major mechanical components and inspecting each part, which even I am not really willing to do lol.

    Lightbulb 1999 Toyota 4Runner

To the naysayers who read this post: I told you I would do this. I found it! Sweet little 2.7 liter inline four cylinder 4runner with 150,000 miles and full service records! No problems at all with it. It's a little slow, being a nearly four thousand pound SUV with only 150 horsepower, but it has enough to get moving eventually... Kind of like the DR200 of SUV's. Underpowerd and SLOOOOW, but it keeps on keepin' on for a good long while! I'm expecting to get at least another hundred thousand miles out of this vehicle!

Sweet. It pays to be picky.

My cage was bought for scrap. '92 Achieva. Previous owner was a little old lady with service by the dealer who sold it new. Old lady got sick and the car sat a few months while she recuperated, and a new battery was needed to put it back on the road when she was well enough to drive. Couple months later, she died. Her kids said the car was parked with gasohol 1.5 years earlier. Got the car home, the battery was 4.5 years old. No gasohol then. Swapped in a known good battery and she fired right up. $350 including battery. Over the past 2 years have done tires, one hose, one belt. Just turned 69,000 miles. Runs perfect. Cheap insurance.
