Fun place, unless you happen to be dead body in an alley.

Hopefully bodies seen are just drunks passed out, which is not that uncommon. "Round-footed" was the term I learned for the numerous stupidly drunk people one would see staggering around in public.
My first visit I was surprised to see streetside coin-op vending machines dispensing cans of beer and 12 oz. cans of 80 proof "rum". The booze opened like a normal can of beer so once opened cannot be closed, so why not drink the whole thing? No problem with kids using these machines. No MADD, no air-bags, little respect for traffic laws and the very under-equipped police made driving an adventure at times.
Hot temperatures with mandatory full face helmets means most bike riders ran around with their helmets perched high on head with the chin guard across the forehead in optimum neck breaking position. Crazy stuff by our hyper-safe standards. I wondered why open faced helmets were not the norm.
