    75th anniversary

Yeah, you got your 416 Rigby. You have your 375 H&H, and your 454 Casull. But I'd like to remind you young old boys that the Daisy 75th anniversary Red Ryder has hit the shelves. And she is a dandy. Metal lever, not the standard plastic. Just saying. And while you are at it, pick up a Model 25 too, because I don't think they will last on the market. Treat yourself.

I was curious to see what the Daisy Model 25 was, so I googled it and damn, that is the pump model that I had as a kid.

Found out that Walmart had it for $29.00 so I added it to my cart only to find out it is not available in California.

Might have to have Fred pick me up one in Nevada.

Jeeze Joe. My Ma also told me potato sprouts would kill me. Cucumber skin was poisonous, and that fast women would be my downfall. Two out of three ain't bad.

Joe, you don't know how close I came to actually doing that!

The pump model had this goofy spring loaded, screw-in magazine that was a pain in the ass to load and would occasionally jam with a BB still under pressure. The only way I knew to unjam it was to unscrew the magazine a little until either the BB fired or the pressure was relieved. The first time I did this I was holding the rifle between my legs with the butt end on the ground and was looking straight down at the barrel while I unscrewed the magazine and POW - the BB hit me in the forehead right between my eyes and gave me a bright red blood blister about the size of a dime.

I don't remember what bullshit story I made up to explain that to my Mom, but I am pretty sure she didn't believe a word of it.

After that lesson, I would use a handkerchief or a shirtttail over end of the barrel when I unscrewed the magazine. It still amazes that I didn't lose an eye that day. I had a lot of good times with that BB gun.

Perhaps the best reason ever to have another.
