Mars One - colonization of the Red Planet...yea, okay...

In my severely limited scientific knowledge, I am approximately 98% certain this is a massive hoax and scam. Also quite possibly the most ambitious April fools joke that has ever been or will ever be pulled off in the entire existence of humanity (I seem to remember first reading about it in April, a couple years ago?).

China Media Claim Private Mars Colony Mission Is a Scam

That being said, I probably would have thought the same of going to the moon, or colonizing "the new world", had I lived in those times instead, lol. It seems that theoretically something like this might actually be possible, but a budget of $6 billion is like an insulting joke (even to me, who knows virtually nothing about much of the technology being discussed). To even imagine something on that scale, it seems like you'd need more like $50 trillion (all of the world's major nations collaborating on the effort).

Opinions? Taunts for the fooled? Jokes?

I have been following for quite awhile. It's exciting and I hope to see it happen! Some are concerned about the fund raising aspect like the Merch.

Not a penny of tax money needs to be spent on interplanetary travel. If the government would get out of the way and let the tinkers tink eventually.,
