You will be genuinely moved...and grateful.

A poignant remembrance of the First Wave at Omaha Beach. June 6, 1944. Many men who were alive 71 years ago yesterday were not alive 71 years ago today. We all owe them a great debt of gratitude.

S.L.A. Marshall was a man of great talent, his ability to portray is seldom equaled. (Note the article was written in 1960)

In case we need a reminder, we lost 9000 brave soldiers in that approach at Normandy, in one day. Thank you for the remembrance of the day Borneo.

Nice reminder Borneo. I was wondering earlier if you were now on the road to Nova Scotia or wherever, eating fresh caught grayling trailside in the rain. Still lawyering truth, justice and the american way, or at least the Indiana way?

Good to point out that not everyone on June 6th carried a weapon. Thanks Mudbug.
The Normandy Invasion and other battles killed a tremendous number of civilians as unavoidable collateral damage, yet the citizens there still honor the sacrifices made by allied troops in their struggle to free Europe from Nazi tyranny. Those were terrible times with terrible sacrifices, let us honor and respect those whose homelands and lives were chewed up throughout the global conflict. Not every German, Austrian or citizen of third reich occupied countries conscripted into the military or labor gangs supported National Socialism, many were victims themselves of overwhelming intimidation and retribution for any resistance.
