    Mare's Leg

Steve McQueen "Wanted Dead or Alive". I guess I watched to many western's because this Henry Mare's Leg in 357 gets my blood flowing. There are just so many other things that I want to buy that are more important. It sure would look bad ass hanging off my TW.

Check out the Rossi "Ranch Hand". Not the same quality as a Henry, but a whole lot less $$ and there's a guy out there on the web who will sell you a dvd & a few parts to tune that Rossi up to a fine rifle. I did just that with one of their mod. 92's in s/s, and after many hours in my work shop, it's a smooth accurate .357 leaver action rifle.

Cool guns, impractical as all get out, but cool. And of course there is that Steve McQueen connection....

Oh yeah. The Rossi is a nice gun but the quality is half what the Henry is, plus I like to buy American made when possible. Henry is made in the US where the Rossi is made in Brazil.

Impractical if that's all you own. The 357 caliber has some serious knock down power. I have harvested four deer with my Ruger Security Six chambered in 357 and your right there's that Steve Mcqueen connection.

Not impractical as to caliber Rick, impractical as to configuration. They can't really be shot as rifles, and they can't really be shot as handguns. There is a technique, and with practice it becomes marginally accurate, however the weapon simply does not lend itself to grouping shots, and I personally would never hunt with one. But like I said, it's a cool gun. If you think of it as a fun gun, it's perfect for some folks. Great for killing milk jugs at twenty yards and five gallon buckets at longer distance.

But practical is usually not the main consideration with things like this. Heck, if a man was going to be practical he would only need four guns.

Woody Harrelson used 1 in the movie Zombieland. Don't know which manufacture it was but looked the same.

They are cool as a fan but I cant think of a single thing I would need one for....other than the whole Steve McQueen thing...(his was not a Henry though) I have been looking for a way to hang a rifle carrier of some kind on mine for either the SKS or 94.

    Large Loop

Got the large loop .22 carbine. Just love it. Action so smooth.

Bought the .17 Varmint Express for my buddy for his birthday. Beautiful, and insanely accurate rifle, but even with my smaller hands, the normal (smaller) loop just does not feel right cycling it. Couldn't imagine doing it with gloves on.

Marlin's 39a loop I am sure is curved for aesthetics, but somehow it noticeably aids in function.

I would like to like to pick myself up a Varmint and a .357 carbine, but two things holding me back (at least as far as the big bore). 1. I cannot come to appreciate the gold. 2. I have found with childress, my pockets don't seem as deep as before.

    Henry's are certainly nice!

Yea, Wanted Dead or Alive is on nightly on Encore Western and also on Me TV....the weapon looks great, but like Borneo sez: Damn thing would not be Practical....on the other hand this in my next purchase....depending on cost and availability at the next Allen County{Lima} Ohio Gun show.....looks cool and when a handgun just isn't enough:
