Drop the "D"! It is Post Traumatic Stress but many refuse to call it a "Disorder". Lots of people have the symptoms but not all of them have such severe cases that they are debilitating.

I would caution your son to be very careful with this diagnosis. Any condition they link to mental in capacities could come back to haunt him worse then the PTS.

I'm with Gary...I think. I guess that depends on whether I understand what he really means. A great many things we call "disorders" today are simply the natural dealing with the crap life shovels our way. Some deal one way, some others, but absent extreme behavior, they are all probably "normal" reactions.

Don't be surprised if the gun grabbers decide that once a doctor prescribes an Anti Depressant for you the blue helmets will come knocking to take your guns! The communist state I live in wants to take your guns over any domestic dispute. Wife or live in GF says I am afraid and he has guns is all it takes.

PTSD is too wide of a spectrum to make judgements

I was diagnosed with it by a "trick cyclist" years ago - spent two and a half years feeling "lost" - woke up one morning and remembered who I was - just got on with it, and made a full recovery. Many are not so fortunate. Like I say, it depends on your inner strength, and how deep it goes. Too many variables to make any decisions based on the diagnosis.

I was having a discussion with my Director a few years ago (personal friend) - mentioned the PTSD - she said "Does your Line Boss know about this" ?

I replied "No - Nor does he know that you were sectioned"

We all have ghosts in some closet or another ..............

Hoot he has his Glock 19 on at all time's, I think he has it on in the shower I have not seen him without it since he got out of the Army so guns are not a problem.
