For various reasons my good buddy Chuck and I hadn't seen each other since right before Christmas. This afternoon we built a fire in the snow up at Scout Camp, smoked some ribs and exchanged Christmas presents.
Since it's easier for me to post pictures from my phone, the pictures will show up in the next post. It's a Schrade Walden Hunter, in pristine conditon. It's never been sharpened and shows no signs of use either on the sheath or knife itself...just age.
The man knows me well, he nailed that gift.
NICE SCORE, BORNEO~~~

When it comes to old school hunting knives I don't think there's another knife that's comes to mind. That's a great gift and having received it from a friend makes it all that more special. It's time to put that gem to work. We have crop damage permits for three deer on the farm. Come on down
Very nice and I have the same one in not as nice condition but still very worthy. These are the predecessors of the Uncle Henry and Old Timer knives and I can't be sure if they were actually made in the Walden, NY factory or in the Ellenvile one. The machines and stamping dies went from factory to factory and the name changes did not occur immediately when moved. Go here for the Schrade Museum,
The older guy is Dr. Craft, my chiropractor. In some of the pictures you can see the bench I worked on back in 1970 at the Ellenville/Ulster plant. My job was as a setter working on the folding knives to make sure the blades cleared each other and snapped shut.
Around here if you stop at yard sales and estate sales you will be hard pressed to not find a Schrade knife in the offerings. All of our parents worked at either the knife factory, Channel Master, the Prison or at one of the many famous Jewish hotels like the Concord, Nevele, Grossinger's and many others.

Heck Gary, maybe you worked on one of my old Ulster Boy Scout knives. The second round of them were made from 1963-1985. I've mentioned it before, but the 152 Sharpfinger remains one of my favorite knives. Growing up I was never without one. I still try to snatch up every US made carbon steel one in excellent or mint condition I can find.
