sorry to see that, Snowball - been a favorite of mine a long time.
Merle Haggard is one of my top five country legends. Merle Haggard, often called “the Poet of the Common Man,” whose music reflected his hardscrabble roots and hard-living ways as well as a tenderness that made him a revered songwriter.
I have dropped many quarters in Honky-Tonk jukeboxes listening to his songs and have wore out the vinyl. I had the opportunity to see him twice in concert. I'll never forget one of his quotes on my first concert. "Being a country music singer is a 35 year bus ride". He played it until the end my son Mike has tickets for a June show.
RIP Merle Haggard
Do you have a favorite song if so post it here and show the world a true American songwriter.

Yea, I saw him live with Bob Dylan and I liked Merle Haggard a lot better. Such a colorful guy and an original artist. I'm so sad.

A couple more...
One of Haggard's most political (and well known) songs, "The Fightin' Side of Me" was written in response to the military action in Vietnam. Released in 1969, this song sends a clear message: Don't mess with "the Hag" (or America). "
