Bad deal here. Some bad luck here. Wonder if a helmet would have saved him.

How sad. Kansas cows likely don't have the reflective ear tags like one can occasionally see in more open rangeland.cow-tags-002.jpg

Back in 73, one of my shipmate hit a cow at about 75 MPH while riding a Kawasaki 750 triple two stroke. He spent more than 5 weeks in the hospital.
I heard he cut the cow in half on impact.

I find it hard to understand how you could hit a cow because you missed it..

Reflective tape is a good idea. Or even LED strobe lights on clips pierced to their ears like tags.

But...it can happen even when you see the beasts.

Not many cows roaming the roads here but lots of black bears that are near impossible to see in time and further north we have Moose that are even worse. On a MC even something like a turkey or woodchuck can be deadly. Now you know why I don't much care for a MC on the pavement. I hit a tire biter dog many years ago and still feel the pain to this day.

Be Decisive! Right or Wrong just make a decision. The road of life is paved with flat squirrels that couldn't make a decision.

Since light travels faster than sound, some people appear bright until you hear them speak.
If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

Have to watch out for moose hunters too. mooseheads.jpg
Alleged to be real roadside photo, the hunters wearing moose heads tied a fellow hunter on the roof and drove along supposedly causing several accidents. Appearently alcohol was involved and the three went to jail.
