    Gotta Love Nevada...something every weekend

Not only is the crazy Burning Man festival on the Black Rock Dessert this weekend with all sorts of crazy people and decorated rigs arriving but we also had the Virginia City Ferrari Hillclimb Championship this weekend. Five point 2 miles and 21 numbered turns of twisty highway to this historic mining town on the Comstock get closed and entrants can go as fast as they dare. Open not only to just Ferraris but Vipers, BMWs and McLarens, Lambos and other exotics.
If you only have 30 seconds check out this V-12 wail:

I like this F40 with an honest to gawd manual shifter, no flappy paddle or automatic trickery...just honest driving skill.

Not bad fun for amateurs on a public roadway...18 pounds of boost...7,000rpm.... 140 mph headed uphill....and 1.4 g's cornering with no run-out what so ever other than an embankment drop off. What's not to like? Nevada has other special road racing events on flatter, faster, straighter public roads too. They also lack ARMCO, hay bails, any corner marshals and adoring fans. Watch out for wild mustangs too.

I never really understood paddle shifters. Either get a manual or an automatic. But an automatic that you tell when to shift.........I don't get it.
Long live the internal combustion engine!

I believe it is the clutch, or dual clutches that are solenoid operated in your modern flappy paddle transmission. Not your traditional fluid drive slush box, they have actual gears meshing.

And this weekend is the Best in the West Rib Cook-off with 23 entrants competing for honors preparing some 241,000 pounds of ribs. Not for the pork intolerant. No shortage of tens of thousands of hungry tourists who somehow manage to gobble them all up.ribs02.jpgCoyaCrQUkAAYk-O.jpg-large.jpeg

70,000+ Burning Man attendees are still out on the Black Rock Playa, they will wander back covered with dust next several days.

"Burning Man" is on my bucket-list. But the saliva drooling down the side of my mouth says it could easily be replaced by this giant Rib Cook-Off.
So you say they run concurrent?

Dual clutch units are changing the transmission world. In time will be quite superior traditional manual units. Much less skill required and lees power lost between shifts. I call it evolution. Like it or not it's here.

The coyotes at the landfill are going to love it once garbage trucks start delivering the gnawed on bones.
