    American Harvest Basket

Here is a new proposal for America that makes sense to me. Replace just some of the cash give aways in current foos stamp programs with direct issuance of American grown produce. Nutritionally vastly more efficient than having recipients spend it on junk food at the market.
Trump's new food-stamps plan: A basket of U.S. food, direct to your ...
I witnessed a true story of a similar and successful ongoing program overseas where the poor were monthly given a shrink wrapped basic package of typical staples like rice, beans, sugar, coffee, baby formula, etc capable of keeping a small family alive.
Then a socialist government took over and decided for the "dignity" of the people they should be given a cash laden debit card instead. This happened at a vastly increased taxpayer cost. Sound familiar?
These debit cards legally bought a lot of junk food as well as cell phones, booze and jewelry. Some of this was then illegally bartered for drugs, guns and sex that otherwise could have put food on the table.
The situation of the poor did not really improve and they felt they deserved more (they certainly got fatter with the fattier junk food now making a bigger portion of their diet).
More was promised if only the socialists would be re-elected. The reds were overwhelmingly re-elected including a new president who was involved in the kidnapping and ransoming of an American Ambassador and I believe the death of one of the embassy staff as well. You remember her, our former president honored her just the other year in the White House. Their deficient spending has continued to soar while foreign investment continues to flee, their currency constantly loosing value relative to the dollar. Their government pension obligations exceed 1/2 of their gross national product. That country is not in good shape today.
Maybe there is a lesson to be learned here and time to reverse a trend.

What is wrong with supplying American food to feed Americans in need while also savings billions? American farmer will likely love it. Grocery stores, processed food manufacturers and vendors will likely hate it due to loss of food stamp expenditures and tell you lots of reasons while this is evil.

    What say you?

I find the best way to potty train my puppies is to give them lots of treats along with hugs and kisses. It works best if applied immediately after they poop or pee on the floor. Let me know how my trick works for you. #mytruth.

It won't be greed which destroys America. It will be envy.

I think most of us here in these conversations are fairly fortunate and don't have any trouble feeding ourselves. Easy place to speak from. It is clear that there are issue in how we care for and support those who have little or no wealth. Giving real food is a good start...... Education should be next....

Except when you take money away they'll revolt because they have to prepare and eat real food instead of twinkies...

Another word I despise "privileged". I was freaking homeless for a very short period of time and privilege had zero to do with me clawing my way out of my own poor choices. Perhaps FORTUNATE would be a better choice of words?

Perhaps learning to prepare and cook a meal could lead to a better feeling of self worth. That can lead to wanting a better education. At least it did for me.
