So I'm looking for an item on eBay. I find and purchase 2 of the exact same item from a seller who doesn't offer combined shipping. I'm fine with that.

I get the 2 items today and they were shipped in the same flate rate envelope. I paid $9 shipping for each item to be shipped - $9x2. So in my mind the seller just made an extra 9 dollars off me.

Am I wrong to be upset?

Offered seller a chance to correct it - he rudely told me to 'get a grip - it's only # bucks'. I use a number sign as he once called it 3 dollars, then 5 dollars, and once 9 dollars.

    Thoughts?

    Needed the rant...

Most ebayers will combine shipping but he probably listed it with the intentions of making that extra money. If it is a "buy it now" deal, they are usually more lenient on combining shipping. In short, no you are not wrong to be upset. Try to buy from sellers with 100% positive feedback. They hold that number in high regard and will do almost anything to keep it that way.

It reminds me of something guitar sellers used to do. There would be (and probably still are) plywood replicas of extremely expensive guitars sold for literally a dollar, made overseas, and with outrageous shipping charges. Ebay doesn't take a commission from shipping, obviously, and the low selling price made people jump on the deal.

Actually; I think eBay has started taking commissions on shipping.

Shipping cost is a major factor in whether on not I buy an item from this seller or that one. A lot of sellers are offering free shipping nowadays.

Thanks for confirming what I thought to be the right point of view.

Worst part is that this individaul is a 'top-rated seller' with 99.7% rating. However today alone he received 3 negative feedbacks.

I'm now a beleiver of seeking out the 100% rating....

I would threaten to kill him, then leave negative feedback.

The seller is obviously an idiot, just one negative can potentially cost you quite a bit of money. So he shot himself in the foot over $9.

I spent over $5k on shipping last year between eBay and my website. I ship everything for free, I just roll it into the price. It makes people feel good.

A lot of sellers use "shipping and handling" as a way to increase profit.

It is how they do business. I don't buy anything from them.

I think eBay started collecting on shipping because some sellers sell an item for $10 with $150 shipping.

The price worked out to be comparable with other sellers with similar items that have free shipping.

The seller can charge whatever they want but a good business plan is to make customers happy and NO ONE is happy to overpay shipping.

Today I received a box of parts.

    The shipping charge was $30.

The postage on the box was $14.

Two months ago I bought a set of USD forks on eBay and the seller clearly stated in the listing that shipping would be $30 anywhere in the US.

When I paid for the forks the seller came back saying he needed $30 ADDITIONAL to mail the forks to me.

We went back and forth a few messages but he ended up canceling the sale rather than honor his listing.

The forks are still listed for sale...

I have bought two other sets of forks WITH the front wheels and both times the seller mailed them up for the stated shipping fee.
