Looking to get another bike and was considering the ktm 530 until I ran across these. The ktm comes in right under $10k while the TE is around $9k and the TRterra is $7k. Looks like the terra would be a great 90/10 street/dirt bike while the TE would be great on both but less comfortable. Some more aggressive tires like those on the TE would make the terra a little more offroad capable. Anyone have or have any opinions on these husky's?

The price of parts for the exotic Husky/KTM/Aprilla bikes is what puts me off them.

i have an 08 sm510r which is just about the same as a te511 aside from the wheels, tires, suspension, engine and a few other things...the ktm 530 exc and the husky te511 (255lbs dry) are comparable and are probably going to require more maintenance than the husky tr650 (407.8lbs curb) but they are also going to be lighter and more fun off road than the tr650...the maintenance on my husky isn't too bad and they make it pretty easy to do...most parts i get from halls ( http://www.halls-cycles.com/default.asp?page=catalogs )...i think the te and the exc are going to stand taller than the tr if that matters...i have ridden mine on long rides before and the seat sucks so i've been debating on getting a better seat...the seat is hard, not wide and has a crowned profile so there isn't much support and the tw seat sucks too but it is a little wider and flatter so it supports better...but this is really comparing apples to oranges...i guess it really comes down to what you want to do with it, how much you want to maintain it and how much you want to spend on it

The Terra has been getting great reviews, I think it would make a great light-middle weight adventure bike. Just depends on what kind of riding you want to do....

    I like this Husky myself:

It looks like that concept might become this: Husky Baja

I ride a Husaberg 570 for my longer trips, it's basically a KTM. Higher maintenance but not too bad in my opinion.

    I really like my berg:

Oohhh ahhhh.... I think I may have found the winner! Anyone heard of the ktm 690 enduro R? I watched some videos and read some reviews and I think this may just be the ticket.

yea i saw that on their site yesterday cause i had to check cause it doesn't seem like they are making the 530exc anymore (they only offer the 350exc-f and the 500exc) so i wasn't sure if you were going used so i never mentioned it...way better looking than the terra, more power than the terra, 3 different engine maps that can be switched on the fly, lighter than the terra and only a little heavier than the 511 and 530, seat is a couple inches lower than the 500exc (unloaded) so maybe a little lower center of gravity depending on suspension...hopefully the seat is more comfortable too...what's the price on one of those?...i def would go that way over the terra...having my TW and husky and ripping around offroad a bit on each (more on the TW), that lower center of gravity is nice cause both bikes are exactly the same weight-wise (~260lbs dry) and i don't like the husky as much as the TW offroad cause it's so high (tippy toes on flat ground and i'm 6') and has a high center of gravity...i def think you have the winner with that ktm

I'd definitely go with the 690R over the Terra. However to me with the knowledge on the top of my head right now, it's a toss up between the TE's and EXC's. If anything, I might be inclined toward the TE for no better reasons than it'll do the same thing as the KTM and everyone and their mother has an Orange bike lol. As for Husaberg, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe their enduros are no longer sold as 50-state-legal machines. The 2011 Husaberg FE570S ( http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=...QEwBA&dur=1064 ) would be a nice option. Too bad you can't get it new Anyway all this babbling aside, my number one vote for bikes in the dirt bike with lights class is the Beta 400RS (they make a 520 version if you're so-inclined). It's the best trail bike money can buy, period. If you read up on it, I bet you'd agree.

    Beta (the best! lol):

So in summary (of my opinion), if you want the best trail bike, get the Beta (just have the credit cards ready if you want one all optioned-out...). If you want a great trail bike that's probably slightly better on the highway than the Beta, get the KTM 690 enduro.

Do you have a well stocked dealer close by that has been around for awhile? If you do and have the cash and the inseam then go for it. I made the mistake once of buying a exotic euro dirt bike that ended up having a lot of work to ride ratio. Then the dealer went under so getting parts became a problem and of course no service. It was a good day when I loaded it into someone else's truck!
