Does the air hole that's in the slide face inwards towards the intake manifold, or outwards toward the airbox?

I was helping a friend fix a KLR250 yesterday and the carb slide is shaped such that it'll fit either way.

The air hole was facing towards the airbox, but I'm not sure it's right. Or does it not matter?

The air hole I'm talking about is the one above the needle hole in the photo.

Thanks! I'm a moron with this stuff sometimes.

After more research I think all CVK slides are asymetrical, so you can't stick them in backwards. I had some carbs, maybe XS650 that would go in either way.
