Track T800CDI Diesel Motorcycle Quick Ride - Motorcycle USA

This is my kind of motor. The reviewers didn't seem to care for it, but to me the concept is awesome (not a big fan of the CVT or even shaft drive, but the engine I like)! According to the article, the manufacturer claims a service life of 250,000 miles for the engine! Even if that number is massively inflated, even if it only actually lasts 150k, that would still be awesome!

I've always really liked the idea of VERY mildly tuned engines designed for longevity (Honda went a little in that direction, in theory at least, with their NC700X). Unfortunately, the average consumer doesn't seem to share this enthusiasm for such "under-powered" machines. I'd love to have a 650 diesel dual sport, for example, with the power of a 250 dual sport (with a bit more torque...), that would offer the service life of the typical small passenger car. I'm afraid if such a bike existed, people wouldn't be interested, they'd all just complain that it was slow and ask why would anyone want a 650 with only 25 horsepower blah, blah, blah...and the manufacturers would go out of business. If they can do this sort of thing for commercial trucks and buses and such (million mile service lives...), why not do it with a commuter/adventure motorcycle? Sigh...

If this kind of crap entertains you, here's a link to the "story of" this bike/company. Before you read it, you should know that (I think) the company is no longer in business

True...BUT, IF the thing is actually good for anywhere near 250k miles, that would actually be pretty darn cheap for what you'd get out of it. Plus 140 mpg (although real world would probably be more like 100 or fewer) is pretty stellar from an expense/ cost of ownership perspective Too bad it's not available in the U.S. Realistically, it just wouldn't sell here anyway...

Edit: I just read somewhere that it is no longer in production... Seems even the Europeans wouldn't have it. I don't get it because to me it's such an awesome concept. I actually really like the diesel engine noise that they complain about, it makes it unique, and it's just weirdly entertaining to me, listening to that clatter-clatter-clatter, droning along. I guess I'm different lol.

I've always wanted to build a diesel motorcycle just because it would be different.

Too heavy! Diesel motors have their place and a spot in my heart but I just don't see them in motorcycles. There are a couple ATVs that you can get in diesel but the high compression required equates to some very heavy motors. A bike such as a two wheel drive Rokon might be the best application for diesel in a motorcycle. Low end torque is where the diesel shines.

Be Decisive! Right or Wrong just make a decision. The road of life is paved with flat squirrels that couldn't make a decision.

If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

Here is a video of a homemade diesel motorcycle. Not real practical, but it looks like fun ride.
