Any experience (good, bad or ugly) with the KTM Enduro 690 R?

I am planning to buy another dual-sport bike and have a few requirements. 1) ride on interstate highways for up to 50 miles 2) liquid cooling (it gets hot in N. AZ) 3) reliable (ride in remote rural areas) 4) fuel injection (I ride at altitudes of 2K to 10K ft). I plan to buy new and based upon my research, the Enduro 690 seems like my best option.

Does anyone have any experience with this bike? Thanks in advance.

If no one on here has any first hand experience with one, here is a thread on KTM 690's from the Advrider Forum which may be of some interest to you.

Hidden Content A ride in the woods helps me relax and release tension. The fact I'm dragging a body should be entirely irrelevant?

No but I just read enough to make me not want one.
No throttle cable. ABS. Price. Didn't even need to check seat height.

    Thanks Admiral.

I have read about 40 or so of these 270+ threads and read about several fuel injection issues in the '10-'12 model years (hence, one of my concerns). Whether these issues have been resolved or not, I have no idea (although I don't see the same number of complaints on the '14, or they just have not been reported on yet). I guess that this is part of the rationale behind never buying a new model bike...let a few years elapse for the manufacturer to work out the kinks. I am not very knowledgeable or experienced when it comes to working on bikes, so I would prefer to pay a little more for a reliable bike needing minimal mechanical work. I would rather be riding than working on them. I can appreciate that some folks enjoy working on their bikes, I am just not one of them.

I understand you can turn the ABS off and get an aftermarket component that leaves front ABS on and rear off. I sat on one at a dealer (not ridden) and while the seat height of 35.5 inches was high, once I got my 200lbs on it, it squatted to a comfortable height (for me). I agree that the price is lofty, but it seems to be pretty well equipped stock without significant modifications needed. I have looked at $8K bikes and they need several $100-$300 change outs/modifications. Hey, ya can't take it ($) with ya!

    Everybodies different.
But with most knew things you almost can't work on them.
Electronics and required safety features make it hard for those that like to tinker.

I hear ya Padilen in regards to working on "NEW" engines, especially those with electronic fuel injection. I have first hand experience with this on my Ski Doo Renegade (snowmobile) with the 600 E-tech engine. No reliability issues thus far, but if I do; I'm screwed. All repairs involve some sort of module, or computer diagnostic. On the contrary the 12k for the sled, is worth every penny as you accelerate with mind blowing response. KTM makes a great bike, if it were me.....I'd wait till the new model year comes out and see how many things changed, and why. Plus paying insurance on a bike through the winter is kinda pointless- here in Michigan anyways.

PSC, good to hear from an Enduro owner. Just read online about fuel injection issues on some of the maps. But these issues seemed to be pre-'13. What do you like and dislike? Thanks
