AJP PR7 Adventure Bike: Slated for Release in September of 2016.

*600cc, fuel injected, single cylinder engine with six speed trans (from the "old" Husqvarna TE630 )

*363 pounds ready to ride (3 pounds lighter than the DR650!)

*12 inches of top shelf suspension travel (unlike the DR...)

*Nearly 13 inches of ground clearance

*4.5 gallon under-seat fuel tank (for improved COG)

Personally, I'm glad AJP decided to scrap the 660 Tenere engine and replace it with the old 600cc Husky unit: I've never really been a fan of that particular Yamaha motor (which really isn't even an actual Yamaha motor at all...). The fuel tank, while stashed under the seat, has a line routed up to the traditional fuel tank position, where the filler is placed on the motorcycle. I think that is an improvement over the filler that was stuck in the middle of the seat (and still is on other AJP models). For those of you who aren't into the Zonghsen power-plants in the other AJP models, this engine might give you a reason to like this bike, too. I am assuming the transmission is the same as that of the TE630 (given the situation - the owners of the old TE engine desperate for money to stay afloat, and AJP's relatively low budget - I don't see why it wouldn't be). If this is true, then this bike will have a nice tall highway overdrive. Comparing this transmission with the DR650's, stock for stock...The TE has a somewhat lower first gear, a WAY lower second gear (7 mph difference at 7,000 RPM!), and yet its 6th gear is still slightly taller than the DR's 5th gear.

Bottom line, this should be a high quality, proper, modern adventure bike with an off road bias (but still very well suited to highway cruising, given the displacement and the 6th gear). It is, again, lighter than the DR650, but is fuel injected and sports much better/much longer-travel suspension. On paper, at least, this is my kind of adventure motorcycle!

A good vid of the TE630 (same engine/pretty similar overall design characteristics): much of this should apply to the AJP as well.

It looks nice but like so many other small brands I worry if they will still be around in a few years. Remember I know what's its like to own an off brand with no parts support.
