It is a Chinese made engine in an American made frame with lots of Chinese parts sprinkled around. Nothing wrong with that. The engines are fantastic. Super reliable.

I've seen Janus before but didn't know they were making or I guess started making an off-the-beaten-path version. I guess everyone HAS to offer that in their line-up nowadays?

I have never seen one in person. Originally since they are made (or put together) in Indiana early marketing stressed American-Made. I think the Chinese motor made them back away from that a bit but still, this one and the older models do look pretty cool. That Chinese motor BTW is a copy of a Honda motor so if whatever Chinese factory that makes it did their homework and keep up quality control... is it a Honda or better than a Honda power-plant? I don't know.

Someone here buy one of these for under $7000.00 and report back. Is their a Janus Owners Forum? Gotta be.

Copy of a Honda motor? The Janus motor is a pushrod single. Honda has used Overhead Cam engines since the 60's.

With a 229cc motor I don't understand the Gryffin 250 name. I know here in America a little dishonesty in marketing is to be expected but why not go whole hog and call it a 500? Or perhaps a Gryffin 1,000 when you figure a thousand dollars of desirable add-ons beyond the $6,995 base price.
So ugly and retro it should get a cult following among the equally ugly and retro.

I like the retro looks, but not the price.

You can get a CSC tt250 with the same Honda clone engine for ~ $2,500.

    Hi jb!

Isn't the CSC the bike you bought a while back? Still have it?

Sure enjoying my TW200...many thanks for the excellent carby photos & other info!

What's with the "Honda Clone Engine"? Does anyone know what Honda engine that is supposed to be a "clone" of?

There is a ton of info on the china bike engines on the site ChinaRiders Forums - Powered by vBulletin. You can find out all the info you can stand on the engines. I have an Apollo 250 (229cc). The engine is absolutely great! I have the OHC version. It runs great and starts every time. I have seen more than one company in the US using these engines. BTW...I have never seen any metal shavings while changing the oil in the Apollo. The first time I changed it on my TW was scary. Metal shavings! I had to check the tw200forums to find out if that was normal. It was as I found out.
