    2005 tw200 customization and mods

Hello everyone out there! I have wanted a tw200 for years and finally purchased one earlier this summer. A 2005 with a little over 1000 miles on it. It is my first motorcycle and it has been really fun to ride and learn on. I was drawn to its rugged styling and seat height. I really like the japanese customizations and hollow body style. But I wanted my bike to still look like a dirt bike/dual sport. I decided to keep the stock tank, seat, and headlight for now. I like the round baja style lights tho. Here is stock.

    2005 build update

First thing I did was switched out the tires for some shinkos. Changed the rear sprocket to a 45 tooth. And splurged on some pivot pegs. Also got some pillow top grips.

    2005 tw200 build update

I finally got in all the parts from japan that I wanted. New led tail light. New sissy bar. I like the way it ties up the rear, rather than just the seat and a brake light. Daytona short front fender. Sits nice and low. I really like its round shape. It hugs the wheel and looks much nicer. I also got a pod style air filter, crankcase filter, and a battery box to eliminate all of the middle plastics as well. I got an American jet kit, and a japanese jet kit to compare. I am definitely going to use the japanese kit. More parts and a larger selection of pieces as well. Came with 4 needles with varying tapers and slots you can put the clip on the needle in different spots instead of using shims/washers.

I seems to be having a problem with these picture keep loading upside down. It's a little frustrating. Sorry. Will try to fix it.

    2005 tw200 update

I am saving all of the carbeuratur work, jetting and needles, pod style filter, crankcase filter, and stainless header until I get my fmf slip on. That way I will have less work trying to jet and rejet the carb. Love this forum for ideas and what's available for the tw. I bought a stainless header for an xt225. It is supposed to just bolt on the tw and fmf. It looks to be the same size and shape when I compared them. I polished it up, but not too much. I like the 2 tone look, and it seems like it will match the slip on this way.

    2005 tw200 update

I'm glad to have this forum. I almost ordered parts just based on the pis I liked. Not knowing the hollow body style was just for kick starters with small batteries and stuff. Would eventually like to add a kick starter, but it looks a bit more involved than I thought it might be looking at the parts kit. I found this cool little oem battery box. It will go in with the air filters, exhaust, and carb mods.

...and don't forget that great looking subframe extension/grab bar that wraps up behind your seat, very nice. Custom made?

The bar is from japan. Kijima brand tandem grip. There is a high one and a low one. I got the lower one.
