So ill start from the beginning.. I had an 02xr650 that got me into enduros after i went on a trip to nassau bahamas and got one of the locals to le me borrow his xr650 for the day for a 100$ since u cant rent anything on island over 200ccs. needless to say after i rode that bike around paradise i was sold.. Dual sports all day.. came back home and bought one the following week. got it on Craigslist fro 1200$ with 1000k mile son it.. was the deal of the century. had it for 2 years and wanted something different. loved riding it on the road but was totally not practical for the trails i ride.. i have a woods bike xr100 that is perfect for tight hairy trails i ride...after dropping the 650 a dozen times in woods and pretty much almost snapping my ancle off my leg, was time for the 650 to go. about 6 months ago i found a guy on craigslist offering trade of an 94 tw200 bone stock 1100miles and a 05 ktm sx200 for an xr650. so i made the deal and sold the ktm for twice what i paid for the 650 and basically got the dub for free.

My tdub has gone thru a few phases and went as follows. day two of owning the dub i took all the plastics off and started messing with it.. put a 6inch round headlight off some old kawi cruiser my neighbor had layin around. didnt like it.. then went back to stock light then ripped everything apart and did some serious thinking about which way i wanted to take it. so here are some pics in timeline order of where the dub has come from starting from when i bought it till before i really tore it down..

now ill get into the customizing i did. which really did not cost me much. here is the parts i used..

Chinese crf100 clone plastics kit- 35$

    crf100 clone gas tank 30$

    ebay seat cover- 12$

    upholstery stapler- 20$

    led taillight- 10$

fog light for h1 hummer- had laying around

    wire feed welder

    spray paint

    adhesion primer

    thinner

5 1/2" desk organizer for battery tray- 3$

some angle iron and flat steel

and im sure of others, could list forever

started off by taking everything that was bolted that i could get off easily since i wanted to paint the frame but really did not want to totally disconnect the rear swingarm or drop the engine.. so i just unbolted everything and masked it off. sprayed it with a gray adhesion primer from shwerwin willaims and krylon satin finish spray paint. welded two bolts on the inside of the two rear frame sets for the rear fender to fasten. and also welded two baskets for the battery tray to sit in.

luckyly everything came together pretty good. not a huge amount of fabricating or anything too technical.

Id love some more info on the gas tank plastic set up..that looks real sharp and gives it that motocross dirt bike look. Is that an actual gas tank or just plastic put on yours? Wonder what i can do to make my big ol clark tank look prettier.

I would do something with the rims and swing arm..since you have yellow fork boots and a yellow spring, how about black rims with a rim strip of yellow?

after i removed the airbox, took two peices of flat steel, bout 1/2 inch wide. bent it till it looked like a tray and fit in between frame rails. then welded it in. i used the stock size battery just laying on its side. then cleaned up the wires a lil and tucked it under the seat. the desk organizer i got was from walmart and was only like 3$ dimentions are good and worked out well. tried to keep this build as cheap and easy as posssible
