    Winski357's 2017 Tw200 build log

So I figured I'd start one of these as a way to keep all my small updates in one place and not spread across the whole forum.
I know I did an introduction already, but I figured I'd put it in here also for those who missed it.
I bought my 2017 Tdub from Classic Motorsports in Traverse City, MI in July of 2017. It is my second Tdub, as I had one back in 2009 when I first got my motorcycle endorsement. It was an '07 model with only 400ish miles on it. I loved the hell out of that bike, but after a year or so I "needed more power" so I sold it and got something else. After a few bikes, I realized I just missed the Tdub too much. My local motorcycle dealership added Yamaha, so I stopped in and they had a brand new Tdub sitting on the showroom floor. I sat on it and all the memories of my first one came back and I had to have it so I traded in my bike at the time and took the Tdub home.

Here it is at the dealership:

And here out in it's natural environment:

Out riding with a friend on an Xt225:

First mod: install bar pad. Had one left over from an old project and it was perfect.

Second mod: better foot pegs. The stock ones suck and my feet always felt like they were gonna fall off especially while standing. Picked up these cast steel ones for $15 on eBay.

Third mod, 47 tooth Sunstar sprocket. I love this mod, makes the bike so much more rideable to me. I dont feel like I lost any power, and it still pulls just as hard in 5th (I'm 165#). I feel like I could even go to a 15t front sprocket especially after the engine mods I have planned for the future...

mod #4: deleted kick stand sensor switch. I know its not a real issue on this bike like it is on some others but that little thing bothered my foot when i stand on the pegs so away it goes! i just tucked it up under the seat for now.

Fun start. Lots of farkles left to add! Be careful on the thought of engine mods. The motor is resistant to gaining much more horsepower even with signifacant mods. Lots of write ups on this forum of bore, stroke, comression and exhaust mods. I have yet to hear a result that would be anywhwere close to what I would think of as a good cost/benefit. Think of it this way. 15 hp stock. 30% gain would be 19.5hp, less than or equal to an Xt225. Not going to get there without adding a cam, at least 25 cc and a lot of compression. Also will need to kill the low end and run a pretty high rpm to get the HP out of two valve motor. Better off buying an XT225 when you want a power trip, probably cost less than all the mods on the TW a bunch of great trails by you, maybe we will run accross each other!

thanks for the advice! I'm not gonna do much to this motor, my plan is to get an xt225 motor and build that up with a jug swap, camshaft, port and polish, etc. and swap the whole thing into my bike. i don't care much about top end, i want all bottom end torque. i'm gonna keep the stock engine completely stock. i'm an engine builder by trade so i'm not scared of voiding warranties or getting into the oily bits, in fact, i love to!

and yes, theres a ton of awesome trails up here! im in the interlochen area but i ride all over grand traverse county.

    Cheapest TW Mod...

Aim it down at the ground right behind the bike. The TW's Powerful Exhaust Pressure will actually lift the bike up a little, making it lighter and therefore faster. Also, the back pressure created by the 45 degree bend is said to give you an estimated 2.8 more horsepower.

    Cost? $1.16

Your project will have all of us watching. The output shaft seems to be the stumbling block to swaps, the old XT350 motor would be awesome if it was at all straight forward! I think I mentioned in one of your earlier posts, I lived in TC for a while and still visit often and hunt a friends 500 acres near Long Lake/Lake Ann. I use my TW as a hunting "ATV" when I am there as well. I will keep my eyes open for a TW.
