So, the 2013 Yamaha XT 250 has fuel injection. Could this fuel injected system be purchased and installed in a TW 200? Do you think Yamaha will come out with fuel injection for the TW in the near future?

YIKES, I suspect a fuel injected TW will appear the model year before the 'Rapture'. Suspect the good Lord would want to move about using the latest technology.

Eskermel, it is certainly a fair question. I think in reality, the TW is seen as an "inexpensive" bike. Personally, I don't see most of use willing to pay for that level of technology. Just my opinion . Gerry

IMHO we are more likely to see the TW killed off because of emissions regs. The Suzuki Van Van has fuel injection. (the closest competitor to the TW).

Yamaha must really like small dual sports... WR250R, XT250, and the TW200.. The XT250 is priced about the same as the TW200, so I don't think fuel injection on the TW is that far out of the question.. I'd like it, I have two other bikes that are fuel injected, it's nice how they self adjust and always run awesome!!

The benefits would be great but the price to mod it would suck.

I second. They will either need to update the TW in the next couple of years with EFI, or kill the line.

I do some work on small engines (chainsaws, etc), and I recently had the regional Stihl rep stop by to give a little refresher training. You should see the stuff they'll have out soon to meet EPA and Euro emissions regs. Eventually, even chainsaws, and your home lawn mower will be forced into electronic fuel management. Soon, the days of a $200 lawnmower from box store will be gone. Again, it's the regs, not the market.

Costs mean nothing to the regulators, in fact they higher the better to them, because some people will just stop buying and using, which is their ultimate goal anyway. Okay, sorry for the rant, but it is the future...pay or stop using it.

I went to the MBE Motorsports website, and the fuel injection kit was listed at cc $300 Canadian, roughly $300 US. Price doesn't seem unreasonable but I am not well enough informed to decide if it is feasible on the TW. Thanks to everyone, especially Rich and Kwizard, for their input. On the site the fuel pump was listed as requiring 12 V, 5 A; would the amperage be too much for the TW charging system?

Good point. A 55W headlight draws 4.6 amps. Unfortunately F.I. requires a high pressure pump which is constantly running.

It would probably be problematic on early TW's but you could juggle or reduce loads on the later bikes if it affected charging.

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Powdercoated '87 frame, extended swingarm, YZ fork legs, ATV tire, 14/55, XT350 tank, spliced quick-release seat, disc brake conversion, beeg headlight, beeger rack, Lizrdcooler, Lizrdventz and bunch of other stuff all covered in invisible ink.
