    TW Lift Kit

Thanks to you guys on this forum I have renewed enthusiasm to complete this 87' TW project.
I have stripped this down to only functional and necessary parts, no battery plastics etc.
It has a TRI-Z front end with disc break, blaster rear shock with duro tire.
Right now I have it running on a blue Chinese CDI and I am waiting for a forum member to build me a new CDI.
Next up are some custom frame work, kick stand, headlight eventually paint.
I have the pipe dream of getting it street legal in MA. Gonna need some DOT stamped parts and a title.
If not I will just run it around some land we have and sell or trade it when I get bored.
Thanks for reading feel free to give some feedback so I can keep the momentum going to finish up the project!

Massachusetts will have the following inspection checklist for motorcycle registration:

    • What do they inspect on my motorcycle?
      • VIN Number/Registration/License Plates
      • Tire and Wheels/Wheel Bearings
      • Axle Clamps/Cotter Pins
      • Brake Operation/Condition
      • Steering Head Bearings/Stops
      • Handlebars/Fork Tubes/Cables
      • Frame/Body/Fenders
      • Controls/Mirrors/Horn
      • Headlights/Headlight Aim
      • Turn Signals/4-Way Flashers
      • Tail Lamps/Brake Lights/ other Lighting Devices
      • Seating/Footrests
      • Fuel System/Engine/Battery/Exhaust/Excessive Noise
      • Swingarm/Shocks
      • Chain/Sprockets/Guard
      • Windshield/Cowling (if applicable)
      • Safety Bars/Luggage Racks
      • Sidecar (if applicable)

While you won't have to worry about the sidecar a little investigation might help determine if the '87 is grandfathered from the four way emergency flasher requirement. Most states require a battery for the light & horn portion of the inspection.

Now that Staute of Limitations has expired I can admit to plating a KDX 2-stroke in Washington state via the trickery of a dry cell lantern battery hidden in my mailbag powering the lights and horn during inspection. What was easy then is likely criminal today. Massachusetts seems only moderately demanding.

That's one good thing about California (at least for now) - no routine motorcycle inspections!

Here's a 1999 Honda CR250 with a California street plate that I had for a while. It was a great hooligan bike but not all that practical for daily use.

I don't think I could get away with a 2 stroke on the busy streets of Northeast MA!

I have a few mistakes on the build and I am learning as I go.
The rear blaster shock put tons of slack in the chain, and when combined with a 13T front sprocket it is even worse. I did order a cheap chain tensioner it is the the way "slow boat from China"
I did get a stainless allen bolt kit which will come come in handy when I have to take everything apart and return it to stock! I like the Stainless bolts looks good and way easier to use.
I dropped a few lbs of bike weight when I replaced the battery with a large capacitor seems to work OK with the kick start and the headlight is fine also.
Just waiting for the CDI to test the performance and see if getting this bike legally on the road will be worth the effort.
