I don't know about the V-star shock but this is how I did it and it works great. my wife is 5'1" and can flat foot. Drill the swingarm and drop the fork tubes.

Just done one today. Here is a picture my strategy, setting it up for a 5' 1" wife and or a same height buddy that rides this bike when we go out country roading. I am preparing to do several in and out TW200 services, this is one of those. In this case it is stretched 2" lowered 2-2.5" and has a 6.5" wheel with welded spokes and a 26x9-14 atv tubless tire conversion that I am still testing. I just laid out the new height on the shock stand, drill thru. and then have to mill about .100" from between the top area to give the round part of the shock body clearance to slide down inside where it used to reside. I mill away some of the area in front of the stand as well. plenty thick in this area to accommodate this mod.

So what is easier if you want to be able to change the ride height back and forth from stock to lowered? Drilling the lower mount hole lower or getting a Vstar shock?

i would think it would be a lot less work to change 1 bolt, than to change a shock. you can do maintenance on the swingarm bushings when you do the drilling and after that it would be easy to go up and down
